silverchrome Posted August 19, 2018 Share #121 Posted August 19, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Paid 1100,- euros and got the M9 back after 9 weeks end june this year. Very good service... they even replaced navigator wheel which I reported to be restless... PS: Someone is talking about continuous problems with erosion also on replacement sensors; could this really be so? I do really expect replacement sensors to be proven to be totally ¨erosion free¨ for a long, long, long time. Anything else would be ridicilous! Only the later sensors introduced in September ish 2015 are "corrosion free", which means a replacement sensor, if fitted before that date, is of the original design and therefore just as susceptible to corrosion as the one it replaced.

Thanks a lot for a welcome clarification. My new replacement should then last ;-)... as I after all expected.
anachronist Posted August 28, 2018 Share #123 Posted August 28, 2018 My M9 had complete sensor failure (without a corrosion issue) in early June and I decided not to send my M9 to Leica, Wetzlar from the US, but to take it and send it in from Germany (since we had a trip planned anyway). A week after I mailed it, I got a confirmation (dated Aug. 28, 2018) that Leica has received the camera. Now I'm waiting to hear about initial test results. Nice: You can track the progress on line. I'll keep you posted.
Snap Happy Posted September 4, 2018 Share #124 Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) I upgraded to a Leica M 240, factoring in the money I'd get when selling my M9 on eBay later. Well, it sold alright, but the buyer returned it claiming sensor corrosion. I hadn't seen any sign of it prior to the sale, but sure enough they included the technician's report from our Leica authorised repair centre in Australia. It's going to cost me $A1500 to repair. Yikes!!! Edited September 4, 2018 by Snap Happy

One week later (Sep. 4) I get a cost estimate back from Leica with the anticipated cost of €825 for sensor replacement plus €174.94 for a new display (plus tax) and some very attractive upgrade offers. Because some parts are not available, I didn't get an estimate for repair time (yet – I requested one). Which will determine if I take one of the upgrade offers. Will keep you posted. lamefrog Posted October 11, 2018 Share #127 Posted October 11, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received notification from Leica NJ that work on my M9 is completed. Two weeks since I sent it in. Sensor replacement + CLA + leather . Of course not too happy that I had to pay at all for a defect but I wasn't eligible for the replacement program . neves43 Posted October 16, 2018 Share #128 Posted October 16, 2018 (edited) First was the "brown circle" on the LCD of my M8-2, which Leica never was able to do anything about it. Than was the sensor corrosion issue on my M9-P. At that time Leica offered me a new sensor and no charges for the replacement. After 4 years my M9-P is flying back again to Germany for the second sensor replacement with the same problem, corrosion! However with a "slight" difference,i have to pay around 1000 € for it. I was considering the M10,but after this i have to think very well about it.Never heard about this problem on other cameras. And after all we are not talking about low budget stuff. Although I understand that Leica had to pull the plug on complimentary sensor replacement at some point in time (be it perhaps also for accounting reasons, because they had to drag around substantial indefinite accruals through their books for several years, which would not have amused investors and auditors), they should have exempted those cases, like yours, that had a prior replacement with the old sensor, because this one did not solve the problem and was an accident waiting to happen, a fact that was known to them from the start or very early thereafter. I was plain lucky to find my original sensor corroded when the new sensor was available, and just before the replacement program was culled.
GuiBacon Posted October 23, 2018 Share #130 Posted October 23, 2018 Hi.... those of us who decide to buy Leica have already passed that self imposed test. Though some of us overstate our presumed capacity for patience. As for me, I have spent time shooting my newly tuned ic to perfect working order. It feels lovely in the hand with a metal heft that belies is size.

The screen (with the whole assembly on the back with the menu wheel and buttons) took 6 weeks until it was available again. After that, it was repaired within a week and sent back to me to my address in Germany. I received it around October 20 while I was over there. I couldn't be more happy. Works flawlessly again. The new sensor does have some very slight color shifts compared to the old one - nothing of concern, especially if you convert from dng. I just noticed when I used the sliders for color temperature and tint in PS. Shooting with a Fujifilm X100 while M9 was in hospital made me appreciate my Leica even more – I could spew at the autofocus. Not my thing, and manual focus on the X100 is unusable. Rangefinder forever – that's why we're all here. And here one with the new sensor from the village in Germany where I grew up (BTW, that is the same river that runs through the city of Wetzlar): Elmarit-M 28 ASPH (Auto)ISO 500 1/60s f8, handheld Welcome, dear visitor! That's really poor service. Have you made the case to them for a free replacement? It certainly seems justified. After all, their replacement with a defective sensor likely extended your corrosion window past the cutoff date. John In my book this is indeed a replacement within five years, AKA free.
