marcg Posted November 3, 2017 Share #1  Posted November 3, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking at the business of coding some lenses.  A very kind member of our forum community is lending me a coding kit – thank you. But I'm also interested in having a look at the adapters which are available.  There are adapters specifically for any focal length – but I don't see anything for a 15 mm Voigtländer lens.  Presumably any adapter could be used – but if it's not specifically for a 15 mm lens then it will activate the frame lines in some way.  Does anyone have any idea which would be the best flange to use for a 15 mm lens – and if there is no specifically 15 mm adapter, what does one need to do to deactivate the frame line activator – and is that even necessary? 250swb Posted November 3, 2017 Share #2  Posted November 3, 2017 Any lens 28mm or wider uses a default 28mm flange. If you can get a code-able replacement flange that physically fits a 15mm Voigtlander lens you would get the 28mm, you would manually test various codes by setting them in camera and see which works best, and then code the lens with that. luigi bertolotti Posted November 3, 2017 Share #3  Posted November 3, 2017 Some couple of frames will be necessarly activated in the VF : this applies to any M bayonet device: for example, 28mm flange will activate also the 90mm frame...but this is not a great issue when using a 15mm, for which, of course, external OVF or EVF is mandatory. Btw, given that you have a 15mm Voigtlander (in SM, I presume, for what you write) , some of the best SM/BM codable adapters are from Cosina Voigtlander itself (see for instance https://www.cameraquest.com/adaptltm.htm)
marcg Posted November 3, 2017 Author Share #4  Posted November 3, 2017 Thanks very much to both of you guys.  Some couple of frames will be necessarly activated in the VF : this applies to any M bayonet device: for example, 28mm flange will activate also the 90mm frame...but this is not a great issue when using a 15mm, for which, of course, external OVF or EVF is mandatory. What you mean by "SM"?  I've been over to Stephen Gandy's site but I don't really understand which one to order. My CV 15 mm is not screw mount
marcg Posted November 3, 2017 Author Share #5 Â Posted November 3, 2017 I've been having a further look. I have a feeling that the link that you have posted above relates to screw mount (SM?) To bayonet mount adapters. Â My lenses are not screw mount. Â Also, looking at my CV 15 mm lens I see that it only has four screws whereas it seems to me that all of the adapters available have six screws. Â It looks as if it is going to be a matter of hand coding my CV lens
jdlaing Posted November 3, 2017 Share #6  Posted November 3, 2017 There are no Leica 15mm lenses so there is no listing in the camera menu for a 15mm lens. The closest one regarding any corrections the camera could make would be the 16mm focal length on the WATE.  I just turn lens detection to off and it’s been just fine so far. marcg Posted November 3, 2017 Author Share #7 Â Posted November 3, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for this. Â Yes, I have turned lens detection off as well and of course it is fine. Â However, that's not what I want to do. I prefer to have the thing coded so I don't have to think about it and muck around. TomB_tx Posted November 3, 2017 Share #8 Â Posted November 3, 2017 The different Voigtlander M mount lenses have a variety of flange designs, and there are no coded flanges for some of them. For example the 35 f1.4 Nokton has the helical threads as part of the flange (to make the lens as small as the old Leitz 35 f 1.4). However, with the slight recessed area on most VC lenses I find the coding kit works well without wearing off. (For the M9 at least - newer models not so much.) My CV 15 mm is not screw mount  Uh.. sorry, I hadn't understood your 15 was in bayonet mount (btw..SM stands for Screw Mount...  ) : if so,I'd think that there is no serious alternative for a hand-coding, unless you dismount your flange and have it milled/coded by some lab... epand56 Posted November 4, 2017 Share #11  Posted November 4, 2017 Om my M8, i was used to shoot with a CV 15mm Version II in M-Mount and I had it hand coded as a 16mm WATE (there is a trench on the flange, made for hand coding) and it was working great. On the M240, this lens performs a boring "Italian flag" so I'm not using it anymore. I should sell it and buy a Version III, but, you know, I'm lazy

lct Posted November 4, 2017 Share #14 Â Posted November 4, 2017 How much bigger is v3 compared to M mount v2? Just curious.
adan Posted November 4, 2017 Share #15 Â Posted November 4, 2017 lct: v3 (left) is about the same diameter, but longer in length (more like an SLR lens in proportions) - which is of course how it gets rid of the color-stained edges. It has about the "feel" of the Leitz 21mm f/2.8 E60.
