Leica Glow ≠ Lens Flare

Leica Glow = Uncorrected spherical aberrations inherent in Mandler-designed non-ASPH lenses.

.

I don't think the answer is as clear cut as that.

This picture was taken with a 1947 Carl Zeiss Jena 85/2 Sonnar lens (not a Mandler design of course) on a M9P and the evident glow is the result of flare.

I guess I have become somewhat stuck with silver bodies as 6 out of my 10 lenses are silver... and I can not really ¨get used to¨ silver lenses on black bodies.

But hey, do not misinterpret this statement; I over and over again just fall in love with the silver combo of my silver M10 with my silver 24 elmarit asph, silver 28 cron asph v1, silver 35 cron V4 or the silver 50 elmar-m. Just very very happy that silver bodies are back. I do own the M9 in grey steel, but still do not know what they where thinking of at the time...

And I guess it is fair to comment that silver represent the classical Leica look or...? ,-)

My M4-P is black.  I am pleased.

My M-P Safari is olive green.  I am pleased.

Getting a black Monochrom 246 next spring.  I will be pleased.

Getting a chrome M3 some day.  I will be pleased.

Leica M cameras are very pleasing.  Except for the red and gold China edition and the orange Hermes edition.  They are hideous.

I agree. I was very silver in my post... and I am... However, the current black M-A is possibly the nicest/coolest piece of camera ever built in my eyes!

I purchased the silver an I love the way it looks, but I'm a little OCD - so now, in my mind, I have to buy my lenses in silver if available.

I have a silver M10 as well, but all my lenses are black. They look great on a silver body. As an added benefit, they are usually lighter and cheaper.

Hello to everybody,

For my first intervention on this estimated site, I would say how surprised I am after reading this thread (for the moment 3 pages but sure it's not ready to end) about the color of the camera body.

Except some second degree answers it shows how in this period unnecessary has become vital.

You ought to hang around some car forums. Boys love to discuss colors of their toys. And not just colors; the "I love my MP" thread has reached 189 pages....

There's a similar thread for virtually every model. And a fortune made by the company issuing special editions.... read fancy packaging.... for the same basic camera over decades.

Just wait until you get to the 'best bag' threads. Enough to last you a month non-stop reading. Straps and cases, too. Women thought they were the only ones fixated on accessories.

Welcome to the forum.

I buy all my cars in either black or white.  I'm a monochrome maniac ;)

You're mainstream. 70% of cars sold worldwide are shades of grey, with white the most popular, then silver and black. Yet I find very few cars that look their best in white.... but great when it works.

White cars stay cooler (physically, not culturally) - but show dirt faster. I got a white Subaru recently because, like a chrome M10, it was available right now! I usually prefer silver or a light beige/green for hiding dust, though, if I have patience to wait for a delivery (I usually don't ;) ).

Given that I got my M10 very quickly (by March) by ordering silver

Do you think silver bodies are more economical to make? My Toy RAV4 V6 is 'Blizzard White' :) Their most expensive paint, but here we gotta blend into Minnesnowta. Counter-intuitive is us. :)

Car makers routinely charge more for certain colors or metallics. The more popular colors like white and silver can be produced in larger quantities. And then there's just smart marketing.
