Thx Pete, many thx for your reply, especially if a bit off thread

I can see really good points here, especially the question tip! Must find something similar in French!

Very nice photo. You may have a problem in France because despite being one of the centers of mid-20th century street photography, I believe there are some laws against it now.

I suggest a weekend workshop with a master. It will show you that it is the most natural thing in the world. Most people either don’t mind or are happy for you to make their photo. If they didn’t see you and it’s a great picture approach them after, show the picture if you have a rear screen and offer to email a copy. Give them your card. Makes for good Karma!

Thx everyone for your detailed feedback, I took notes so I'll check every time I go out!

The guy down the street is amazing, however the camera that was filming scenes certainly play a big role in people's attitudes, but this does not diminish his incredible approach!

I suddenly remembered having made the portrait of 2 guys in the street by approaching them with a smile, it worked well but surprised by their positive response (they were very suspicious before, during and after ...). I rushed too much and did not even take the time to make the sharpness...

Is it OK to link instagram photos here?

I believe it can be done but some/many members won't click through for a variety of reasons.  In my opinion it's better to post the picture on the forum.

Pete.

Nice shot, and I'm impressed at how good the noise is for 10,000 ISO. I've never tried my MM version 1 at that setting! Tried 5000 one time, and didn't like it, but I might have overexposed it, I suppose.

Yes, it can generate banding and I also wonder how to get steady results. As you say it might depend on exposure.

Noticed some banding on an underexposed photo taken  from the same set of pictures .

Here two more "clean" shots at the same 10.000 iso and 1/30s:

I would echo what Pete says about not being secretive. It's surprising how receptive most people are to having their picture taken, or being included in a scene, if you are just open and honest about the fact you are taking a picture.

I went to a street photography exhibition a few years ago. It was pictures shot on the streets of the same city I work in. The angle the photographer had on the accompanying blurb was that he had been thumped and attacked quite a few times by his subjects. I've no idea what his approach was, but it's not something that's ever happened to me.

I was once photographing into the sun at Central station, just going for silhouettes and long shadows in the early evening sun. One of the silhouettes marched right up to me and demanded I delete the picture because he didn't want to be in it. I showed him the image on the back of the camera, just to prove that it really wasn't just about him, and deleted it according to his wishes. There was no problem.

Have a look at this guy - I could never operate to this extreme, or indeed desire the sort of pictures he goes for, but he's a great example of what you can achieve by not being sneaky in your approach, and just really going for it.

Ah yes, that's Jhon Bosch, 'The Warrior'. He used to post on the forum quite frequently, but not seen anything from him for ages.
