batch code 15 sound promising as verification before purchase.

How much is it to change censor today in Europe [EU]

In France, it costs 1500€ or more for M9 sensor replacement.

Hi a.noctilux  [nice name :)]

What fo you believe is a proper value for a M9-P that has Censor issue?

(time for censor change is of no issue)

cheers Per

Hello Per,

I don't know for the value of a M9-P in your country and for you as buyer.

The most effective way is to go to a Leica Store or Leica dealer to have the cost of the sensor replacement.

Then add the cost of the M9-P with sensor issue, after that decide if the value is right.

As side note, I'd not buy a M9 with sensor issue, as Leica Camera Wetzlar offer for sale refurbished M9 with warranty,

have a look here (link)

Trying to determine CCD update.

I had no success but perhaps someone smarter than I can help here.

This applies to firmware: 1.210

Do this with a freshly charged battery.

For the M9 there is a service menu which can be brought up as follows.

Power on

Delete -> up (2x) -> down (4x) -> left (3x) -> right (3x) -> Info

This shows the service menu.

Scroll down and up using the arrow buttons.

Press Set to select an item

Gently press the shutter release to leave item.

Press Info again for the menu

Under Hardware IDS, I get this on one M9

CCD ID: 8

CCD Board: 2

Control BRD: 2

M16CID: 0

For another M9 (same firmware) I see

CCD ID: 5

CCD Board: 2

Control BRD: 2

M16CID: 0

This means nothing to me. There is much more. I have not tried active tests for fear of messing up. Some of the items are quite interesting and it would be great if others could contribute.

Interesting:

Color Shading (on/off)

Black Shading (normal, always on, always off)

and others ... my battery died here. :)

I would like to know what you can change with the Black or Color Shading settings

Consider purchasing this M9 with these sensor IDs. Is it fairly confident that this is the new gen sensor?

Mine, which has the new sensor shows 15, 2, 2, 0

The seller should be able to provide you with a document showing the sensor was changed but if not,  the best way to determine which sensor is in a particular body is to send an email to Leica support with the camera serial number. They know.

Contacted Leica and can confirmed that the new type sensor was replaced in Feb 2017.

OK, so far the thesis seems to hold true.

CCD ID 5 = Old M9 Sensor

CCD ID 8 = ? Maybe new M9 Sensor as well

CCD ID 15 = New M9 Sensor

@ pico: Is there a new leatherette on the camera sold as a new sensor? (The one you are not sure about)

Still to little data for a MM thesis.

CCD ID 52 could mean "monochrome version of ccd id 5". But this is just a wild guess.

Any more data? 🙂

Does this apply for the m9-p aswell?

When Leica did the free replacement was it a new type of sensor not prone to corrosion or just a replacement piece of the same, original design sensor?

How about when they started charging for replacements.... same old style or a new, improved sensor replacement?

Thanks

When the program first started they replaced with the same type of sensor but then quickly moved on to the new sensor which is not prone to corrosion. now all replacement sensors have been exhausted and some 3rd party repair shops have found a way to replace the 'cover glass only' on affected sensors.

Some will say the old sensor produced a more desirable image and that the new sensor was a bit 'flat'. I have an M9M with the new sensor and it is gorgeous, my M9 had a corroded sensor and is away having the cover glass replaced.

My fear is getting an M9 where the replaced sensor is the same as the original and having it corrode. A newer one may not have the same character as you have mentioned.

I have owned both new and old and to be honest there is little or no difference really. The only main issue to be concerned with is that the camera is becoming harder to find parts etc but I think we may see a few corroded sensor bodies on eBay for parts, just depends on how adventurous you are.

I have an M9 and M9M and I will try to keep hold of them both.

Just rehashing this ONE MORE time 🙂
Mine reads:
CCD ID:15

CCD Board ID: 2

Control Board ID: 9

M16C ID: 0
Unfortunately, I lost my invoice from my sensor replacement repair from a few years ago.
I emailed Leica NJ today with my M9-P's serial number and they could not find the repair.
Oh well, don't lose things, right?
This is only coming now because I want to sell the camera.

Hope everybody is doing well.
Best,
Mark

Update to my rehashing update 🙂
Leica officials now tell me that I have the newest replacement sensor. (see above sensor numbers/info)

One thing I've noticed with the new one is how much less dust it seems to attract. With the old sensor, I had to clean it for just about every outing. Since I got the new one in 2016 I may have cleaned it twice.
