If you have a favourite type of imagery...what's your favourite?

Street? Nature? Landscape? Macro? Flowers? Animals? Moody? B&W? Safari? Home? Children? Mundane? Glamour? Other?

And why do you like to do so??  (perhaps you'd like to note your camera and lens too... ;))

all best..

Street photography and Photo-journalism i believe. That what I really enjoy shooting. I am set on Leica 75mm F2.5 and Voightlander 15mm 4.5, quite useful for all i need on my M240/-

Landscape, the very first type of photography I did and still doing it.  A few years ago I would have added 'Street' in the genre of HCB, Frank, Friedlander, etc. but it has become an abused genre mainly showing people just walking about, and revealing nothing in particular of the human condition.

street (b/w) is my passion,

it´s like a challenge for me.

.... a rigid demarcation against my professional work (which I enjoy too)  ;)

equipment :

mono1(+summicron 35 v4 ,canon ltm 50/1.4)

from time to time:

m8 (elmarit 28, cron 35) and x1.

ups,

just realize that`s a  m240/262 thread , ..... sorry david   ;)

lambda.

Photojournalism - choose a project then go out and shoot it in depth.

It's a good antidote to crap that I had to shoot for years.

I broke my ankle and it reduced me to hobbling about and it made it hard for me to work in my job so I have called it a day and now I do my own thing working on projects that I like and not having to "dance to others tunes" or bother if I'm pleasing them.

I think that you need to keep active in photography and there is no better way than to set yourself a project - preferably something that interests you.

Sorry to hear about your ankle how did you break your ankle I have have both my ankles defused long story... lets say car and sports.

I agree with you that we need to keep our self occupied and busy with Photography it's the same case with me I set a day and just go out on the street and shoot not much where I am but it's my main hobby when I travel all the best to you Brother

Street/documentary for me. I get disillusioned with it sometimes, mainly over its intrusive nature, and try other things. But the panorama of human experience is unequaled subject matter that I always seem to come back to.

Landscape. I hope the photos capture my personal response to the natural world. I prefer Leica for the image quality, weight, and simplicity. For years, I used an M2, then an M7, and now mainly an M262 with a 35 mm Summicron aspherical, 90 mm Elmarit-M, and sometimes a 50 mm Summicron DR along with a Gitzo tripod.

lambda.

I didn't know where to put this thread lambda.  I wanted maximum exposure so I thought in the main M area.

I'm hoping anyone with a camera will chip in, out of interest.

All best, to you ...

As a retired Advertising /Studio Photographer I have been fortunate enough to have  a camera in my hand most of my life.

I simply enjoy photography.......everything about it ....Shooting, playing with files on the computer......telling stories, capturing moments, photographing  in a city or in nature. I also like ....translating others ideas to a photographic vision......(working with others)

If I have to pick one discipline?  Its capturing or creating moment's....pictures that will mean something to friends and family and others for to years to come.

"And why do you like to do so??"

Photography/Art slows life down.... so you can see and experience whats important.

Its an amazingly enjoyable medium......still as magical today, as when I first saw a print come to life under the red light of the darkroom.

....camera and lens too.

My  preferred camera is the simply designed M240.....

which lens ....jeez? the one that's on the camera .....Or different kits for the different disciplines

.......How do you paint with just one brush?.........unless you have to....then it would be a 35mm no wait a 50.

I also have a Nikon for when I need auto focus, zooms or long lenses ........but I hate that darn camera.

I agree. Choose a subject you care about and dive in.

but it has become an abused genre mainly showing people just walking about, and revealing nothing in particular of the human condition.

I just loved that! It perfectly summed up my feelings of the majority of so called 'street photography' in far fewer words than I could manage. :D

If I had to say any particular genre, it would be reportage in the style of W Eugene Smith... something I am utterly useless at. But I love the work of Elliot Erwitt and Robert Frank... both had a wonderful eye and a perception that even now leaves me shaking my head in wonder.

Another genre that appeals is semi abstract 'film noir' type stuff. Cliche, I know... but I find it interesting.

Oddly enough, two of the photographers I admire most on LF have actually posted on this thread. Lambda, who's work I always look out for, not just the 'House Numbers' series of people... but some of his more disconnected stuff. And Paulmac... which will probably surprise him because I've probably argued with him more than anyone else on here! But a lot of his stuff is exceptional.

Two others, Massimo... because he is brave and is prepared to be more abstract and visual than most, and of course, Colin, whose work on Glasgow is quite stunning and also often quite challenging in composition. Always great to see his posts.

What genre...? I suppose documentary... but that twists and puts a different light on the subject... and it definitely needs to break the rules and look and feel slightly uncomfortable in terms of composition or exposure.

Harley Davidson motorcycle accident - a car hit the engine bar which folded up and smacked my ankle. Just a bloody glancing blow but my ankle took the full impact of it.

Don't get me wrong, am walking around now but with a limp and can't really run anymore so I have called time on my press photography days.

Thanks for asking - appreciate it!

Ahh boy.... glade u walk and get about ur daily life

I like your idea of a project Paul...and always enjoy your images.

They will be important in the future, unlike many of us will just see our vast library ignored when we go.

I keep trying to set myself something to go for...but my passion weakens.

My interests are nature...landscapes;wild and woolly, and the close-ups of the wonders of the world.  Hence my move from M8 to M240; live view and macro...for those insects and flowers... ;)

It's a copy-stand next, and micro work.

all best...

Paul, I had to chuckle a bit because I ride, too.  It's my other passion.  In fact, since the mid '60, I've had a camera in my hand and a motorcycle parked close by.  I did the photojournalism thing while serving in the US Army.  These days, though, I photo my three grandsons, a little macro work, sometimes.  I also travel quite a bit by motorcycle so landscape photography really interests me.  While on a trip to Europe late last year, I found myself doing a bit of street photography and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I did have a couple of people confront me, though.  I presented them with a card containing my email address and told them to send a message referencing when, where, etc.  I sent the photo file to them.  I received a 'thank you' from one of them.

Your last sentence in post #7 really rings true:  "I think that you need to keep active in photography and there is no better way than to set yourself a project - preferably something that interests you."  I'm fortunate to combine both of my passions.

Stay safe on that motorcycle!

Mike
