A bit of a mysterious lens, this one. Definitely a Sonnar design and not a Russian fake. There are various accounts of how it came to be. The most credible versions involve a trove of pre-war Zeiss glass (possibly intended for other military applications, such as rifle scopes) and some kind of black market operation likely run by disgruntled or previous Zeiss employees right after WWII. It is said that less than 500 of these lenses were made, with serials in the 1407xxx range, before the police would crack down on the illegal business.
There are often one or two available on eBay (from the usual suspects, typically overpriced), but they can be found at more reasonable prices elsewhere, with a bit of patience.
