Ecar Posted April 19, 2018 Share #3893 Posted April 19, 2018 Thanks for sharing ! Is the original hood worth using or does the lens react well to flaring conditions ?! Best, Jean-Marc. Hi Jean-Marc, To be fair, I got the lens only a few weeks ago - and the pictures I posted above are really no more than test shots on its very first outing - so take my comments with a big pinch of salt. Initial impression is excellent: sharp, little distortion, great build and ergonomics. I'll need to compare it with the SEM 21/3.4, but it should be close. So far, I have left the hood at home, and put a clear B+W filter on the (large and exposed) front element to prevent damage. Strangely, shooting straight into the sun (or with the sun near the edge of the frame) didn't cause issues - but I had one single and unexpected manifestation of flare in the form of an odd red/orange horizontal streak towards the middle of the frame. It could have been a reflection induced by the filter, and/or it could possibly have been avoided with the hood. However, it was only one in nearly 100 shots. Again, take this for what it's worth: I'm afraid I'll have to take more pictures with/without hood and filter to come up with a better answer... mweaverpics Posted April 19, 2018 Share #3894 Posted April 19, 2018 I picked up a case full of old screw mount lenses and accessories with an early IIIf body. The body was as expected, great shape but needing the shutter mechanism cleaned and lubed. I sent the 3.5 f3.5 Summaron and 5 cm Summitar to Ye for a cleaning. The 20 cm Telyt is fabulous still as is and I was lucky enough to get the tube that allow mounting to camera. No visoflex required. The 90, well... it went quickly and cheaply on Ebay. While I have more modern Leica glass, it's fun to use the old stuff if you understand the limitations. The Summaron is small and renders great images. The Summitar is easily as sharp or sharper than a DR Summicron in the center wide open but highlights are more harsh. The 200 is just really sharp and creates a great background blur when used wide open. All of them are not good with backlight. Backlight and point light sources are not so much of a problem for modern multi coated optics. Much of that can be fixed in digital post but it's always better to not have something to fix because the original is less than optimum. So, put a LTM to M adapter on them and it's off to shooting. Sorry, I'm not going to slow myself down using a IIIf! That being said, here are several of my son and his now new wife from the basement of Chicago City Hall last Monday. Shot with 1951 era Summaron on M 240. Welcome, dear visitor! eastwestphoto Posted April 19, 2018 Share #3896 Posted April 19, 2018 I would love to show you how much I LOVE my Leitz Summar 5cm F:2 LTM lens from 1938 as a coated version. The colors, the BOKEH at f:2 , such a joy; BUT, this website has a 500KB size, which is like 2005 capability. My Sony NEX 7 is a APS-C chip so 50x1.53= 76.5mm @ F:2/24 MEG. Thats far beyond this websites ability to upload. I wouldn't even dream of using the Sony A7r for this task as its 36 MEG. So, is their a way I can size down a photo on this site? https://www.flickr.com/photos/59361781@N03/41479610292/in/dateposted-public/

farnz Posted April 19, 2018 Author Share #3898 Posted April 19, 2018 ... BUT, this website has a 500KB size, which is like 2005 capability. ... Unless you choose Premium membership, which offers 1 MB upload amongst other benefits. ... So, is their a way I can size down a photo on this site? Not on the site as far as I know. Personally I down-res with lossless jpg in Photoshop before uploading but most post-processing software will have a means to do this. Pete.
ianman Posted April 19, 2018 Share #3899 Posted April 19, 2018 (edited) So, is their a way I can size down a photo on this site? For image size, when you choose bbcode when sharing from flickr, you can choose a new size (there is a popup menu) For file size optimisation https://tinypng.com/ or https://kraken.io/ (online services) or http://www.jpegmini.com/ (paid desktop application). or on MacOS https://imageoptim.com/mac (free desktop application) Edited April 19, 2018 by ianman
