I ordered my MP about 10 days ago. I know I could have a long wait ahead of me. Out of curiosity I emailed Leica to ask when they thought they'd do another production run. I got the standard (non)answer. "Demand is high. Resources are low. We never really know."

I know this post offers absolutely no new info :) but, hey, it helped me pass a minute or two waiting for my MP. lol

Apparently you can buy a chrome M-A and send it back to the factory for conversion to black paint through the 'Redesign' program.  Heaven knows what that costs...

https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/M-System-Service/Redesign

Why you can't just order one in black paint rather than going through the trouble of taking delivery and then immediately sending the camera back for a 'redesign' is beyond me.

This link goes to nowhere.

I have a vague recollection of seeing images on here where someone had removed the white paint infill from their black M with a toothpick and acetone.

Each to their own.

...I did the soft toothpick thing to both my BP MPs (no acetone) but left the silver chrome untouched. Each to their own.

Has anyone got an MP with script engraving but left in black paint instead of the usual white? I wonder how that would look 😍

My 2015 black paint a la cart MP came without white paint in the back engraving (the Made in Germany part). I didn't ask for it, this is just how it was delivered.

"Unfinished", as I've seen on some Leica lenses.

Sometimes, ink-filled engravings, other times, no inked engravings,

like my newest sh Apo-Summicron-M 90 with "LENS MADE IN GERMANY 11884"

For MP Classic, no engraving at all at rear (from this site ... )

...here's a view of the 'toothpicked' top plate of one of my BP MPs, with the serial number edited.

I love the M6 style'd ISO dial! It looks like your serial starts with 30, I thought they only went up 29... Mine is is 2890 which I believe is 1st batch (or 2nd?).

...I cannot comment on the rationale behind Leica's serial numbering, Patrik - I can however confirm that this MP (#3003XXX) was picked up brand new around March 2007.

Thanks, Mine is from 2002 I believe, so would never guessed yours was from 2007. You learn something new everyday!
