Does anyone know the approximate serial numbers of recently manufactured MP's? I ask because I have seen a new MP for sale here in the UK, but I want to make sure it isn't old stock that has been sitting around for a while

My MP which was made last year has the serial number 3976xxx :D

Ordered a black MP today:). Prior to this, I telephoned a couple of reputable dealers who both advertised MPs as being "in stock", but found that neither had one. Luckily, I'm getting too old to become pissed off about such small things!

I eventually arrived at my local dealer and ordered the MP there. After telephoning someone (leica UK?), the salesman said it would arrive in around three weeks, and that he would keep in contact. It's nice to know that there are some helpful, motivated dealers around.

At the moment I dont own an M mount lens, and whilst I have ordered a 50 Apo, I'm not prepared to wait until it arrives so I can use the MP, so I'll buy a zeiss 50/2 to tide me over. I cant wait!

Slumming it with the Zeiss! It'll be good to hear your comparison of the two. I'm think I recall one reviewer favouring the Zeiss. Sean Reid? At least, that was one Zeiss user's summary of the review.

I recall Ming Thein comparing the 50 Apo and Zeiss 50/2, with the results not being greatly different. Ming also said the Apo 50 had a "transparent", what-you-see-is-what-you-get image quality, which is how I interpreted the results from my wonderful elmarit-r 100/2.8. So its the way the new 50 renders that interests me, including high contrast when used wide open.

...probably because he "blind-tested" both lenses. Nothing like incessant Leica guff to dull your sense of objectivity.
