I have nothing against Panasonic but if I wanted a Leica that's what I would like not a rebadged camera. All manufacturers get parts from other countries. Got a Rolex some of the bits come from China etc as long as 51% come from Switzerland it can be marked as Switz made.

Neither T nor CL are rebadged cameras AFAIK. Simple to check. They have no clone elsewhere.

None are rebadged, but in the present century parts are sourced all over the world, assembled to subassemblies and final assembly in Germany. All to specifications from Leica's design. Panasonic is one of Leica's major suppliers. The time is past that goblins used little hammers to create the Leica cameras in the workshops under the roots of the trees of Wetzlar's forest.

Is the CL a real Leica or a hand polished Panasonic ?

Never thought of that before i.e Panasonic just fidled with in Germany maybe the only real Leica is the M series. Would never rule out the CL if funds were available

The M has plenty of Panasonic parts inside..All Leicas, apart from the *-lux series are real Leica design.

From the information I gathered :
- Maestro processors are made by Fujitsu.
- sensors have various origin : European foundries, TowerJazz and Sony.
- almost no Panasonic tech inside M cameras. They are mostly European tech. Even M sensors are not from the Panasonic and TowerJazz joint venture.
- Q, SL, CL, Q2, SL2 are using mostly Panasonic core technologies. But everything else (body, UI, DNG, etc) is pure Leica.
- X line were an OEM ready camera from an undisclosed Japanese manufacturers. Leica liked the idea and bought it. They received every parts of the cameras (including the lens) ready to be assembled in Germany.
- TL line were also an OEM ready camera from a undisclosed German company. Leica thought that is was a great idea to get new customers, more akin to smartphones UI. The TL line were assembled in Germany with parts made in Portugal. No Panasonic tech inside, which is why TL2 did not have access to DFD. Therefore having slower AF than the CL.
- x-Lux line are just Panasonic cameras with Leica designed enclosures. Everything is pure Panasonic : RAW files format, UI, button layout, cheap build quality, manual and packaging.

Leica camera AG is having lots of suppliers. It is not dependent of Panasonic. In fact they tried to not rely to much on them. Diversity is the key for survival. Because what will happen to Leica if Panasonic leave the camera business ?

So even the lens on the X is not a real Leica made lens

Because technology moves on and a screen is more versatile than an EVF.

Says who? the T LCD screen is fixed, not even tilt or flip, and low res so I don't see how come is versatile. My Fuji XT3 tilt-screen yes, it works, so its EVF.

I say.
It is possible to do things with a screen which aren’t possible with an EVF. There aren’t any things you can do with an EVF which aren’t possible with a screen. Ergo, the screen is more versatile.

The first thing I bought for my T + TL2 was the EVF.

1 it tilts to allow easy low level shooting

2 it allows me to hold the camera to my eye so that I can

a). See the image in bright sunshine

   b) More importantly I can’t critically focus M lenses if I hold the camera at arms length!

3 it has diopter correction so I don’t need to put on glasses to read the screen

1 You can crouch with the screen. Try holding the camera overhead and see where the EVF gets you (and some screens - not the T series admittedly - will tilt AND rotate. You can’t do that with an EVF!)

2 a) it’s possible to see the screen in bright sunshine too but I’ll grant you that it isn’t as pleasant. However, does it make a difference to one’s ability to compose the final shot? Not really. The  image the camera captures is the same.
b) hold the camera closer!

3 One can’t use the EVF without taking one’s glasses off which is a PITA in most situations.

The evf on leica is not anything to praise about. Lol. It gets the job done but alot of evfs out there on the market that are newer and less sluggish than the 020. Im using the 36mm optical viewfinder that is sooo much more easier to use than the evf.

Im still hoping and praying for sigma to realise an accessory evf to the fp
