jmahto Posted September 25, 2018 Share #1041 Posted September 25, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Next time you are out with a still subject and the necessary tools, perhaps you could shoot both fillum and digital and show us what is what. Your words are intriguing but haven’t cut through the operational wall that film presents. This year I have been bitten by film bug and trying to find answer to question similar to yours. There is certainly a difference but which one you like is subjective. It is also not a simple film vs digital since there are different films and digital can also be processed differently. Personally I find the appeal of film in having a certain baked in look (tonality, color and grain) as opposed to digital file being open to different processing (unless you are using jpegs) which can be complex in order to mimic a certain film output. It is a different capturing medium.

RexGig0 Posted September 29, 2018 Share #1059 Posted September 29, 2018 (edited) I have been working my way through the posts in this thread, having reached Page 50, thus far. I realize that any image is, primarily, the photographer’s creative skill, but, this Summaron 28mm f/5.6 is, indeed, so very “polite,” a lens which seems to do no wrong. I have left many “Thanks” in the lower right corners of posts, in appreciation of the photographers’ skill and creativity while using this Summaron. I know I like the classic appearance, and the general form factor, as I have a Summaron-M 3.5cm f/3.5. I know I love the 28mm field of view, as I tended to use my Nikkor 24-70/2.8G ED at about 28mm to 31mm. After Hurricane Harvey ruined my 24-70/2.8G ED, I replaced it with a Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E, one’s of Nikon’s truly greatest. (Thankfully, most of my photography equipment survived.) So, I do not “need” another 28mm lens. Well, the Summaron is more compact than the Nikkor 28/1.4E, and my M10 and M246 are smaller than a D5 or D850. I now want to visit Little Havana, Las Vegas, Cherhill Down, Lulsworth Cove, Powderham, in Devon, London, Sicily, Venezia, the rural outskirts of Basel, Wira Bruk, the Church at Roslags Kulla, Bangkok, and other places I have seen in the images here. I salute the artists who shot and processed these images. Well, so, yes, I am doing the figures inside my head, and plotting to buy a Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6. Thankfully, my wife is tolerant. She is the enabler who goaded me into serious photography, and the mentor who guided my early path, but failed to limit my interest to her favored Olympus film cameras and Nikon DSLRs. I want to embrace the modest flare, and create my own flare blobs. Thanks, to all who have posted images and/or commentary in this thread.
