Leica Summaron-28 -image thread

Next time you are out with a still subject and the necessary tools, perhaps you could shoot both fillum and digital and show us what is what. Your words are intriguing but haven’t cut through the operational wall that film presents.

You might look at Adan's post #41 for some additional information: Leica M Lenses, Focal length question: 40mm vs 35 & 50

Yeah it’s not the brightest or the sharpest, but it is tiny and it gets the job done with style.

And in a different vein, a casual portrait from the Summaron-M. I rarely crop but did so this time (cropped from landscape to portrait format).

My memory book keeps landing open to this page under "Vermeer lighting." The cropping and the background composition with the three pendant lights and two muted figures artfully plays with your daughter's bent elbow to draw the focus to your daughter's face. Still, I am intrigued to see the uncropped original.

Cheers,

Rog

Been using the 28 mm f/ 2.8.  One of the main reasons I like this lens is because of the small size.  WhenI had my M8, I sold the 2008 version of the 28 mm f/2.8 because I just did not like the FOV with the crop.  So should I be looking to trade the 28 mm f/2.8 for this way smaller size 28 mm?  I really am looking for a way to make my M10 as small as possible.

Cheers

Size is not everything, so they say.

Yes, it's small. With the hood on, it's not quite as small anymore. But that should not be the deciding factor in your choice. Do you find yourself often using your current 28mm with a larger aperture than 5.6? Do you like the rendering of the Summaron?

Luckily for me, I find the rendering very appealing and rarely, if ever, have been cursing the slow 1:5,6... and as a bonus, it's small.

I’m finding myself closing down my Q so the ‘aron is looking mighty enticing. Love the FL but I feel on my M9 this May strictly be a high noon lens for it and who shoots during that time? ;)

I use mine at night or near darkness.

What I appreciate is the lack of "Sunstars" on spotlights at night pictures with more than enough depth of field at full open :).

Think of the Tri X  day/night use with f/2.8 lenses (by then the most found 28mm, 30-40 years ago) say at ISO 800,

the math with f/5.6 is only circa ISO 3200, that is more than usable on M10 and for same shutter speed as before, just use 10k ISO to gain 2 more shutter speed.

Sorry, you mean to use on M9.

That can be used also to 1600 ISO or less ;).

Summaron-M 28mm on M-D at ISO 400 ( a bit PP, perspective quick correction )

Mulhouse, definitely not at noon :p

If it was another lens, we would experience "sunstars" (depending on number of blades of aperture opening)

on those spots, lamps on the sky ( that would be annoyingly perturbating, for me )

I like your approach. And it does make sense about the sunstars. This will ben next. Till then I will enjoy the thread. Please keep the photos coming. On an M9 preferably for me.

There are M9, low light exemples posted earlier in the thread.  Here are some I took, minutes after picking my lens up from Red Dot Camera last year... Nothing fancy, I was just testing it at that point.
