Advertisement Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Hi ianman, Take a look here Leica Summaron-28 -image thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
A miller Posted October 26, 2016 Share #222 Posted October 26, 2016 This lens is undoubtedly interesting (it certainly has piqued my interest) but I think it is a serious mistake to think there is anything inherently "artistic" or "creative" about it. ...except how it handles flare - at least the original version. To me, this is a big exception.
lct Posted October 26, 2016 Share #223 Posted October 26, 2016 Sean Reid's pics show some vignetting but little flare and no glow. As per Adam's pics above, the original lens looks more interesting from this viewpoint.
Michael Geschlecht Posted October 26, 2016 Share #224 Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) Hello Mladen, Leitz/Leica 39mm filter thread = 39mm X 0.5mm pitch Leica Thread for mounting lenses on cameras, etc is 39mm X 1.0mm pitch Best Regards, Michael Edited October 26, 2016 by Michael Geschlecht
luigi bertolotti Posted October 26, 2016 Share #225 Posted October 26, 2016 .... To be useful to me it would need 39mm filter thread instead of 34mm ... You can easily find a SOOGZ... just to enhance the "retro" mood (it does not inhibit the mount of the hood, too)

Thread pitch didn't cross my mind, thanks for information regardless. Do you happen to know thread pitch for 34mm filter on Summaron.

Found this snippet, apparently SOOGZ (which I googled as I had no idea what it was) would not work...http://photo.net/leica-rangefinders-forum/00KXdU Edit; so what is the filter size of Soogz, 36mm? Pictures of new lens show E34, exotic territory. http://uk.leica-camera.com/content/download/132259/1705357/version/5/file/Datenblatt_Summaron-M+5.6_28mm_e+%282%29.pdf Edited October 26, 2016 by mmradman

Ted Lemon Posted October 27, 2016 Share #230 Posted October 27, 2016 I found a 34mm UV B+W MRC filter on Amazon sourced from Germany and ordered it at the same time as I ordered the lens. The filter arrived and it is 37.5mm so wrongly advertised, I have asked for a refund. I did not know they even did 37.5mm filters! Anyway I have seen you can get a stop down gizmo on Wex Photography site for 37mm to 34mm etc but I don't think I will bother with a filter at all. The exposed external lens area is so small anyway so I will go commando!
Robert M Poole Posted October 27, 2016 Share #231 Posted October 27, 2016 Incase anyone is interested here is a boring colour shot with the Summaron. This one has been straightened in LR and lost a little of the vignetting but it gives you an idea of the rendering. pedaes Posted October 27, 2016 Share #232 Posted October 27, 2016 From Roberts image above and the images on Sean Reids review, IMHO the lens seems to produce more pleasing shots in colour than b&w.

Commonly available on the bay, I just had a look.

Guest JMF Posted October 27, 2016 Share #235 Posted October 27, 2016 I still have one somewhere, unknown brand from China IIRC. Did its IR protection job just fine.

earleygallery Posted October 27, 2016 Share #237 Posted October 27, 2016 I like photographing street art, mostly in colour, and I reckon this lens at f5.6 with it's natural vignetting would give very nice results - love to see an example of that if anyone can oblige! christoph_d Posted October 27, 2016 Share #238 Posted October 27, 2016 What about UV/IR filters for the M8? I checked for B&W but could not find the size. Heliopan has 34x0.5 in their catalogue. Did not check on other manufacturers. Rgds C.
