Guest JMF Posted October 24, 2016 Share #183 Posted October 24, 2016 Your 'loaner'? Didn't think lens was available yet. Do tell.. Apparently the London Leica Store (leica royal exchange) has some loaners as well !
IWC Doppel Posted October 25, 2016 Share #184 Posted October 25, 2016 I took my M9 which does need a new sensor, but I haven't got round to shipping it back yet… and my summicron 28 to Mayfair and tried the new 28 Summaron. It's a lovely tiny thing, don't like the lock on the focus tab. Took two shots with each lens at f5.6 and…. Well I should have taken more. A quick look says the summaron is more resolving in the centre and I didn't notice much performance fall off at the edges, it has a colour density that seems to add weight to the look of the image and they do look different, small differences in some ways, but I was impressed. I only did a quick couple of shots and not a carefully managed comparison but nice.. Okay Leica do your thing with the 35 summilux F1.4 and make it .7m focus, rebuild and re engineer and I can covet yet another 35 I don't need

Graafber Posted October 25, 2016 Share #186 Posted October 25, 2016 I am the owner of a leica Monochrome 246. Any comments of this lens suits the 246 well or is more a "color" lens. Verstuurd vanaf mijn D5803 met Tapatalk

Graafber Posted October 25, 2016 Share #188 Posted October 25, 2016 All lenses sing on a Monochrom. Thanks, sorry for my English, I mentioned if the characteristics of the lens suits a Monochrome as well, or if it is more a Lens for colorwork. ianman Posted October 25, 2016 Share #189 Posted October 25, 2016 I am the owner of a leica Monochrome 246. Any comments of this lens suits the 246 well or is more a "color" lens. I don't know a lot about the history of colour film, but when this lens was designed I'm not sure that colour film was the norm.
earleygallery Posted October 25, 2016 Share #190 Posted October 25, 2016 It's nothing to do with lens design as such, more the coatings and I expect this new lens will be multi coated like all other current Leica lenses.

luigi bertolotti Posted October 25, 2016 Share #192 Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) That is somewhat more redesign than I expected. Indeed,if both the schemas are trustable, almost all the curvatures are different from the old to the new... different glasses by sure... but maybe they aren't 100% precise..., for instance, the drawing at right (new lens) shows some glass' thicknesses that look different from the section view... ianman Posted October 25, 2016 Share #194 Posted October 25, 2016 To make it even simpeler, is it more a color lens than a Monochrome lens To be honest I'm not sure what you mean. I would imagine that this lens will work brilliantly on your Monochrom. I wish I had a Monochrom, but I "only" have an M9... onto which I am going to fix this lens (I ordered last week) and make monochrome photographs with it, about 90% of my output.

I don't understand what you are asking. All I wrote was that I have ordered one and I plan to use it as I use all my lenses... on the M9 and converting to monochrome. jaapv Posted October 25, 2016 Share #198 Posted October 25, 2016 To make it even simpeler, is it more a color lens than a Monochrome lens Verstuurd vanaf mijn D5803 met Tapatalk It is rather the other way around, there are lenses that are better on the monochrom as chromatic aberrations will have less impact. It is hard to imagine a lens that is more suitable for colour than for black-and-white.
michaelwj Posted October 25, 2016 Share #199 Posted October 25, 2016 And isn't black and white the ultimate "retro"? Colour is some sort of fancy new invention.
