I love photographing little critters using the macro mode in the Q(2). I ran an experiment using the Hoya Macro Close Up Filter versus straight Macro of the Q2. First I'll show a simple test I did looking at distortion. Not surprising, the Hoya filter does exhibit quite a bit of barrel distortion especially away from the center 50%. Since the spider I photographed is small and does not cover the center very much, my take is the distortion is minimal, but the decreased focus distance helps overall resolution considerably. I'll post the second images straight from macro mode. All crops are the same resolution.

Here are the non-Hoya filter photos. The first image is my poor technique for being level and the vignetting is due to the macro flash.

Tonight we had a visitor wanting to be photographed close-up so I obliged. This is a Yellow Jacket. Often feared for their sting, but this one was in a good mood and posed numerous angles so I could get the best shot. I am totally amazed at the Q2. The resolution of this system is truly stunning,. The magnified views are cropped to 785 px on the long edge which is pretty close to 300 mm equivalent crop. In this case I used a close-up filter, plus a ring flash. The lens was in macro mode. This is almost microscopy photography because the system is so high resolution.Leica Q2, 1/1000, f/16, ISO 50, Canon MR-14 EX II ring flash, handheld.

Nothing very flash yet, but this was my first macro attempt with a one-day old Q2.
