Beautiful bee but I thing surrounded too much dark (only in my opinion) !

Thanks. Your idea presents an interesting technical challenge. Its all about balancing ambient light with the flash contribution while stopping the Bee’s wings and ending up with a sharp image. I also consider aperture setting impact on flash light and DOF. I’ll have to play with lowering the shutter speed and seeing if the Bee maintains being sharp. I love the challenge. Thanks.

wow, Dan. that's a "winning hand" :-) great capture.

Thanks Ken. It took me all of 15 minutes to capture it. Prefocused in manual to the minimum macro distance. I’d guess 3”. I just followed the bees around shooting on high continuous mode with the flash at 1/64 power. No joking I took 50 shots. Two were close to in focus. This one is sharp and the next to last image I took. There’s a fair amount of luck and persistence involved. Anything to try and one up Demitris! He’s the Master of Macro.

I've been an "Elpro 52 skeptic" largely because of its "Leica price". I have a terrific macro for my Nikon, and it's hard to see paying so much for a macro filter for a 28mm lens, no matter how sharp.

But, wow. check out this current example on the CL macro thread. Just loving the colors and bokeh:

Agree. Absolutely beautiful. I love to see that printed large. 4’ square. It would be dramatic.

Your bees are twice as good as mine. :-)

As we were brushing sand off our feet and putting on our shoes we saw this insect.  Barbara thought it was rather nice until she thought it was a roach - A creature she cannot tolerate (though the large, hissing cockroaches of Madagascar are acceptable to her)

Hey Dimitri! Great photo as usual, however I’m confused by the blur on this image, it doesn’t look natural - or say logical - to me.

Did you add or tweak blur during post-processing?

Thanks for the comment Gil!

The only thing I have changed on the photo is the orientation on the DNG, some cropping and the usual colour/contrast editing. The leaf was oriented more like the way it is here but for some reason the camera captured a vertical shot.

I too find the image quite surreal. I am not sure if the reason the bokeh looks weird is the fact that the in-focus plane is a bit diagonal. It is a favourite of mine though.. The fact that the drop doesn't touch the body of the leaf, for me makes it quite a unique shot!
