why oh why oh why oh why does the bl**dy file numbering set itself back to zero with no facility to either to carry on where you left off or start at a given number ???????

this is absolutely ridiculous.

It's messed up my file numbering system of many years. I haven't found a workaround yet :(

Doesn't saving the settings take care of the numbering?

PS. No it doesn't. Mine back to zero as well even though I successfully reimported my settings without problems.

Otherwise I like the direct exposure compensation control and the extra top and bottom speeds. The other improvements do not affect my shooting style in any significant way. I still would like to see a permanent exposure preview setting though.

It happened to me.  I don't put things in profiles, so I ignored the warning in the instructions to export your "profile."  Result -- factory defaults, including starting the numbering over.   Even though the chip has several hundred files on it, it started at zero.  Fortunately, the files already on the chip start at a higher number, so there is no duplication.  But, dammit, the files show higher numbers and the camera ignored that...  I'll sort this out when I find the menu entry that lets me rename the file folder for current images.

Scott, I don't use profiles either but exporting the current settings to the card and reimporting them after the update works. I wasn't sure but I tried it anyway and it worked.

Right.  But too late for me.  However, I have renamed all future files Sxxxxxxxx, so there should be no interference in numbering.  But I hope the camera doesn't get confused as there are now three subdirectories with files in them.

I still don't see the possibility to put the jpegs on the number 2 chip.  But if the dng can now be reviewed up to 100% on the LCD, maybe I won't keep jpegs any longer.

Can someone confirm how the new file numbering works?  You can change the L to something else?  And does the folder number still update after 999 exposures or is it now 9999 or something else?

thanks

I'm happy with how the update came out. Bravo!

Of course there's always more to be done ... but this is darn good.  :D

I was testing the Face Detect focusing this morning, and a little bit of the Tracking (dynamic) focusing too. Both impress me as far, far better than it was with fw v1.2.

SL is to support all wireless flash firmware 1.1 in M documents, firmware 1.2 and 2.0 can not be used to upgrade PROFOTO wireless flash device (Canon TTL-C) and Canon ST-E3 wireless flash device. Top flash Canon 600EX 1.2 firmware can use wireless PROFOTO single point (TTL-N and Nikon) can be used.

Leica TTL flash protocol is incompatible with Canon TTL flash protocol. So are Nikon, Olympus/Panasonic, Pentax, Fuji, Sigma, Sony, and all other TTL flash protocols.

Not this time, but they're very much aware of the need.

Still, this looks like a glass 4/5 full to me!

Thanks for your comment Jono!  If that means they will address it with some future fw upgrade - well, I am than still happy...

Great thing they seem to listen to us though!

Indeed - sticky exposure preview remains the biggest deficit.

i still can't get direct exposure compensation to work though. I still have to press the button first. Perhaps I need to de-map it from that button..... Nope, that doesn't work either.

Any ideas?

I understand others' desire for this, but for me the way exposure preview works now is just about perfect. Such it is, I guess.

Once you've enabled the direct ev compensation function in the menu, you need to use the correct dial...

The active dial for direct EV Compensation adjustment follows the camera's operating mode.

With dedicated lenses (SL and T):

  • P - top dial: EV Comp, rear dial: P-shift
  • T - top dial: shutter speed, rear dial: EV Comp
  • A - top dial: EV Comp, rear dial: aperture setting
  • M - top dial: shutter speed, rear dial: aperture, EV Comp menu for EV compensation (I assign this to a long press on the Upper-Right button.)

With adapted lenses (M, R, and third party):

  • A - top dial: EV Comp, rear dial: unused
  • M - top dial: shutter speed, rear dial: aperture, EV Comp menu for EV compensation (I assign this to a long press on the Upper-Right button.)

I'd marked that as a bug during the beta, but no one else commented on it.

It only happened with the first beta update, after that I assumed it was fixed.

It is probably me misunderstanding what you write, but... rear dial to change aperture on M lens in manual mode??

Hmm...isn't that to be done directly on the lens and not possible with any camera dial?
