I sure hope so, I feel the Q 28mm is the tip of the iceberg for us and Leica. Just look at the incredible sales demand for a camera that's 9 months old. I think Leica would be very foolish to not expand the Q offerings. JMHO

I asked my Leica rep this once, and he told me that Leica had settled on 28mm because it was best compromise to get f/1.7 in a reasonably size lens, so he didn't foresee them doing longer focal lengths because the lens barrels would be too large. That being said, the x-vario has a pretty large lens for the size of the camera, and owners seem to really enjoy them. Maybe they will?

Greetings.

I do not know, but the scenario of a 36 MP Q with Summicron 35mm f2 would be very attractive.  And when you crop it for 50mm with 24 MP, the final result will be awesome indeed.  Hope to see such a camera some time soon.

I can't see why this shouldn't be possible. The zoom lens on the Digilux 2 was simply brilliant the movement was entirely internal. I would live a Q zoom to replicate this modus and become the ultimate Digilux 2 replacement. personally I prefer 24-70 rather than 28-90 as a zoom range.

Digilux 2 sensor 2/3" sensor vs. Leica "Q" with FF-sensor = 28-90mm zoom range impossible

As far as I remember , a Leica representative said in an interview that Leica is happy with the success of the Q platform and has plans for the Q platform in the future, but didn't give any details on the specs or date.

Apart from this, Leica wants to keep the Leica platform compact and this is why they released it with 28 mm 1.7f lens. Leica rep added that, Leica will manufacture another model ( 35 or 50 mm model ) when they find a way to make it compact with good performance according to the Leica standard.

Couldn't the keep it small if the range offered was say 24-50 or 21-50? I am not quite sure how this works, I can't buy in to a fixed focal length camera at this price bracket. I loved my Digilux 2 except the resolution and low light level performance. As a travel camera I think it was just great.

Leica seem to have decided that 24MP is the sweet spot for their FF sensors.
