After many years of work, I have finally edited down my 51,267 photos of Honduran families to 52 and published my first Blurb book:  http://www.blurb.com/books/6725808-las-familias

All photos made with Leica rangefinders, all with black and white film.  I still have second thoughts about what I should and should not have included but I had lots of help editing and will save the second thoughts for another book!

You can preview the whole book on Blurb. Let me know what you think!

Tina,  I have only had the briefest of looks, really, but it is evident that this is a huge achievement -- a coherent body of photo-documentary work that is elegantly and faithfully done and is of historical and social significance. You should quite rightly be proud of this. Congratulations.

Quite lovely.  Too bad so few people will see it.  Why?  Most of us will not click through without incentive to do so.  In the future I most strongly urge you to include one or two images along with the link directly on the forum to lure us into clicking through.  You may also want to consider placing this in Barnack's Bar.

Thanks, Stuart!  I have attached the cover photo from the book.  I will also post it in Barnack's Bar.

I can tell your heart was in the making of these extraordinary photographs, and the human connection is genuine.  It's not every day that we get to see photographs of this caliber and depth on this forum, so this is a real treat.  Many of these photographs have taken my breath away, and brought back memories of a trip I made to Nicaragua years ago, and stayed in places with families like those in your photographs.  I think I will order a copy for myself.

Blessed Holidays!

Tina, I am glad there are people like you who make a great effort to document the life of people. It is very important work. Apart from the great images I also liked that you included the names of the people shown in the photographs!

Thank you!  I'm glad you noticed the names.  It has always been very important to me to include names.  Usually, the parents could not read and write so I would give my notebook to the oldest child and ask them to write down the names and ages of everybody in the family.  They were always very proud to be able to do it.  I still have all of those notebook pages from almost 30 years!

A wonderful book. God and family through the generations and an abiding sense of love. Stunning.

Fantastic! Felicidades, Tina!

A question, sort of off-topic, why did you go with Blurb for your book? I've been kicking around the idea of putting out a book of my photos, but I'm not sure who to go with.

Saludos,

Santiago

The LUG group that I have belonged to for years, puts out a yearly photo book and we've always used Blurb.  I've been impressed with the quality of their books.  I chose the premium paper and don't regret it.  The photos couldn't look better in my opinion and the hard-cover wrap-around cover is perfect.

Thanks!

Tina, haven't rec'd my copy yet (in transit) but was thinking with the difficulties that Blurb sometimes has with printing a b & w image file, perhaps it might be helpful for others if you listed the steps you took to get the images properly set up to submit to Blurb. (And perhaps cross post your answer to the LUG.)

Merry Christmas to you and Tom,

Jay

Hi, Jay -  I could have sworn I answered this but I don't see it here.  Maybe I answered on the LUG!  I just prepared the photos the way would to print them out myself.  Probably 90% was done in LR with a little spotting in PS.  All of the photos were film negatives scanned with a Nikon LS5000 using Vuescan.  Some of them are shot on TMax 3200 or TriX pushed to 800 so they are pretty grainy, but grain never bothered me.  Sometimes I print with a hint of sepia but these have no color in them at all - just pure B&W.  I think Blurb did a great job of printing them exactly the way they look on my screen.
