New Leica M in September 2016? The speculations.

Personally I am quite happy that Leica is deferring the replacement of the M240. Each year they do so adds one year to their end-of-service date, to synchronize better with my own end-of-service date ;)

Spare parts for us will always be easier to find than parts for no-longer-supported digital M's  :D

This year Leica has decided to ignore that kind of pressure.

sigh... they get more and more like Apple with every passing Photokina. I'm turning my ire, er, desire back in the direction of a new Macbook. That should drain things sufficiently to ignore any new Ms or lack thereof for the moment.  But make no mistake, any thought of a new M240 are off table, I'm going with a Audi TTS instead.

The crystal Leicaball in Delphi is saying that the only solution to protect the core integrity of the M (as in "Messsucher", and never ever to be mistaken as "mirrorless" because the rangefinder mechanism does have tiny mirrors), to maintain harmony in the community and to allow the company to continue to innovate and sell anything and perpetually new - currently thought to be a necessity of any sustainable business model - was to prepare the launch of the Leica E (as in "EVF") in the very same form factor as the M.

The M will continue to be available on a subscription basis (which was successfully pioneered by Adobe in the photographer community), to allow the company a constant source of revenue of this line, for as long as there are parts.

The problem Leicaball is still trying to solve for - and preventing an imminent launch of the E - is the fact that the de-identified MP and EP would look almost indistinguishable, which could threaten harmony; Leicaball is monitoring the forum for suggestions on this issue

It would be nice if the new M recorded a wider spectrum than the currently visible. Perhaps together with a breeding and culling program which projected threats outside the visible so that our descendants could appreciate it. Fitting technology to current human capabilities is very short sighted (no pun intended)

The existing M240 already does this.   But you can't see it.

I'd like a screen on the back of my camper so that I can show my travel/holiday photo's when returning home, directly from my new M to the screen. That is when/if all cars are on automatic pilote and we are forbidden to drive ourselves. Leica should start with this technology now to speed up this development

That could potentially add an inch in length and a few pounds to the camper, alienating many M users.

Firmware problem. Happens on my M too.

That's a relief. I will wait for the firmware update. Sick of my Canikon friends traveling to exotic location (with spare cash) and teasing me with gorgeous photos. But I always amaze them with perfectly focused (RF) cat's eye in my living room. But my cat is also looking older than what she is in my pics. Hopefully Leica is aware of the issue and working on it.

Exactly!   I always thought that the ages-old marketing palaver about a Noctilux capturing colors that the eye cannot see was at the core of Leica think. Tell them that it is soooo sophisticated that only special people can possibly fathom it! These must be the Professionals who are targeted by the SL?
