Guido Posted September 2, 2016 Share #1361 Posted September 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Personally I am quite happy that Leica is deferring the replacement of the M240. Each year they do so adds one year to their end-of-service date, to synchronize better with my own end-of-service date Spare parts for us will always be easier to find than parts for no-longer-supported digital M's

LocalHero1953 Posted September 2, 2016 Share #1364 Posted September 2, 2016 Thank you, mjh. No need to wake Rip van Winkle from his bed yet. Quite right. He can sleep in until October.
wlaidlaw Posted September 2, 2016 Share #1365 Posted September 2, 2016 Wedding photographers with film and MF just used to tell the couples: "......and I thought you would like a few in fashionable soft focus." Wilson
Tailwagger Posted September 2, 2016 Share #1366 Posted September 2, 2016 This year Leica has decided to ignore that kind of pressure. sigh... they get more and more like Apple with every passing Photokina. I'm turning my ire, er, desire back in the direction of a new Macbook. That should drain things sufficiently to ignore any new Ms or lack thereof for the moment. But make no mistake, any thought of a new M240 are off table, I'm going with a Audi TTS instead.

Peter H Posted September 3, 2016 Share #1368 Posted September 3, 2016 I think you'll find it's a crap camera. I don't know: it's about the same size as an SL with a zoom lens attached, and it shows you a nice environmental picture of the abandoned shopping trolley you're about to reverse into. colint544 Posted September 3, 2016 Share #1369 Posted September 3, 2016 At this rate, the M240 will have been in production longer than the M5. A four year production run is pitifully short for a film camera, but an eternity for a digital camera!
MRJohn Posted September 3, 2016 Share #1370 Posted September 3, 2016 The crystal Leicaball in Delphi is saying that the only solution to protect the core integrity of the M (as in "Messsucher", and never ever to be mistaken as "mirrorless" because the rangefinder mechanism does have tiny mirrors), to maintain harmony in the community and to allow the company to continue to innovate and sell anything and perpetually new - currently thought to be a necessity of any sustainable business model - was to prepare the launch of the Leica E (as in "EVF") in the very same form factor as the M. The M will continue to be available on a subscription basis (which was successfully pioneered by Adobe in the photographer community), to allow the company a constant source of revenue of this line, for as long as there are parts. The problem Leicaball is still trying to solve for - and preventing an imminent launch of the E - is the fact that the de-identified MP and EP would look almost indistinguishable, which could threaten harmony; Leicaball is monitoring the forum for suggestions on this issue
Tailwagger Posted September 3, 2016 Share #1371 Posted September 3, 2016 I think you'll find it's a crap camera. Not a problem, just have to figure out how to tether to the virtual dashboard.
Exodies Posted September 4, 2016 Share #1372 Posted September 4, 2016 It would be nice if the new M recorded a wider spectrum than the currently visible. Perhaps together with a breeding and culling program which projected threats outside the visible so that our descendants could appreciate it. Fitting technology to current human capabilities is very short sighted (no pun intended)

otto.f Posted September 4, 2016 Share #1374 Posted September 4, 2016 I'd like a screen on the back of my camper so that I can show my travel/holiday photo's when returning home, directly from my new M to the screen. That is when/if all cars are on automatic pilote and we are forbidden to drive ourselves. Leica should start with this technology now to speed up this development

jmahto Posted September 5, 2016 Share #1377 Posted September 5, 2016 I shot some pictures yesterday and they all looked crap. I am hoping a new M will take better looking pictures. (Note: I was resting and shooting randomly from couch.)

jmahto Posted September 6, 2016 Share #1379 Posted September 6, 2016 Firmware problem. Happens on my M too. That's a relief. I will wait for the firmware update. Sick of my Canikon friends traveling to exotic location (with spare cash) and teasing me with gorgeous photos. But I always amaze them with perfectly focused (RF) cat's eye in my living room. But my cat is also looking older than what she is in my pics. Hopefully Leica is aware of the issue and working on it.
gpwhite Posted September 6, 2016 Share #1380 Posted September 6, 2016 The existing M240 already does this. But you can't see it. Exactly! I always thought that the ages-old marketing palaver about a Noctilux capturing colors that the eye cannot see was at the core of Leica think. Tell them that it is soooo sophisticated that only special people can possibly fathom it! These must be the Professionals who are targeted by the SL?
