I thought I won the lottery this weekend when I saw B+H had a lightly used Q available for $3400, I snatched it up immediately and canceled my pre order with two other shops.

Come monday I received the shipping info for the couple of accessories I ordered with it.... then I got a phone call around 4pm from the Used department. Apparently they "lost" the camera, could not locate it and canceled my order.

I'm sorry, but if anything B+H is highly organized and I find it hard to believe they lost a Leica Q, more likely an employee bought that camera and has it for sale on craigslist for $6000 right now.

My first bad experience with them in many years and lots of business, one that will keep me from buying from them for a long time. I explained how I had given up my preorder spot since I bought this camera and I trusted them.... nothing they can do to help me get up on their list.

Anyways, so I called the Leica store in LA and am on that list now, they said as a flagship store they get stock before other retailers and are getting two shipments a week, she estimated I could get mine within 4 weeks.

I explained to the salesperson what had happened with B+H, I was told I'm better off not getting the first batch of Q's.... They didn't outright say it, but were implying the ones being manufactured now would be better or more reliable than the first batch.   I haven't read of any major issues, possibly just salesman babble, but though it was little peculiar.

One of the issues was the fragile screen. Hopefully it's rectified by now and is no longer a concern.

I would be pretty steamed as well, sounds like one of those flybynigt BH knockoffs in NY that always try to sell you bundles of cheap crap to go with your grey market camera. Weird because If they are selling it for $3400 that means someone sold it to them for like $2500-$2700 which is crazy because they could have sold it online in mere minutes/hours for more then the B&H price. To "lose" the most sought after, hard to come by camera is questionable to say the least. Or it was stolen and they didn't realize until after they sold it to you. They should have let you back on the list at your previous place no doubt. Bad all around.

in regards to the first batch maybe that's why the wait is so long, they had to do a major production fix that is taking it offline.

Not promoting this site or its practice but DigitalRev has Q's in stock for $5300.  A premium for sure but not as bad as the bay and Amazon scalpers.  :D

By the way, it appears there is one for sale on the Buy-Sell section of this site.

FYI, I have raised the issue with B&H (just to make sure that I have not somehow lost my place in the que) and they claim they have not fulfilled any Leica Q orders recently. Strange...

I believe that Msohio was referring to getting his bi-weekly backorder email from B&H, not that he received a Q. At least that's how I read it.

I would be surprised if they really got two shipments a week.  It goes completely against anything else I have heard so far...

I only know what she said on the phone, and since I was talking to a "sales associate" who knows what's true. Maybe they are getting two shipments a week, of one camera each. :)  It is a "flagship store" and I'd guess that Leica is like Apple in the sense that their stores get limited stock trickled in before retailers.

What B+H did was shady, it should have never been offered for that price in the used department given it's elusive popularity. Since it was B+H I trusted them...

I think that someone who put it up for sale might not have known better, went on standard used 9 condition pricing and then the "mistake" was caught and "my" camera went elsewhere. There's no way B+H lost a Q, just like there's no way I'll be spending any money there any time soon. A real bummer really.

I would think that this used Q B+H had for sale was a return.  Which was fine for me to save almost a grand, my cameras are tools not jewels and get used, minor wear marks are inevitable anyways.

Doesn't matter, I ended up purchasing a like new condition Q with some useful extras for a fair price off of another forum, less than I would pay with taxes for just the Q in Beverly Hills anyway and it's on it's way (confirmed), I'll have it Friday.  :D

Hey marchyman, you the same marchyman on ADV?...

How on earth did you guys manage to live and breath before the Q?   B)

Am I to believe your older equipment is tossed aside for the latest and greatest?

NewsFlash - it's a camera, albeit a Leica  :) -- I admire your tenacity to achieve ownership..

I for one was anxious to obtain the Q as it represented a step up in class for me.  I went from an X1 crop sensor to a Q FF.  i was anxious to start shooting FF.  I of course cannot speak to anyone else's "tenacity".

FYI...I created a Wanted post to our store forum and within a very short time, a day, I received a response of a virtualy new Q that was purchased at a Leica store in the USA and I purchased it. Might be a solution for someone else so I decided to post this outcome. Worked for me and I should have the Q tomorrow after paying via PayPal.

The post cost me four Euros, the Q a touch more.

I have just cancelled my B&H order so anyone on that list just moved up a notch.

I'm on a waiting list at a few stores hoping something would break free soon, but not looking likely. I just called one of them, a pretty big operation and was told that their rep said they are only getting 1 per month, that's right, One. So I joined the list in June and may see something in October. I totally understand waiting, I waited for my 240, but this seems excessive. Seriously by October I may be looking elsewhere. I've had a few trips this summer where the Q would have been really handy and I have another planned for next weekend.

You ever get to the point where the wait is so long it's just not that interesting anymore?

If there is still a considerable line when/if a interchangable lens Q/New M comes out before the end of the year you will see cancellations in droves. I know one guy on here said he cancelled his Q in anticipation of it.
