Even Wetzlar don't have one for sale...

But I think it's good they are selling so well they can't keep up with demand ... it's nice for Leica to have such a storming success!

Something is wrong with Leica...agree they are selling but supply is so much low that it shows there is lot of demand, will Leica  give info on how many sold and how much is a waiting list. Looks like they started with some hundred or 1000 units and now production is on to fulfill the received orders. It is just not good on Leica's part that they launched "Q" without really stock ready.

There is nothing wrong with Leica from my point of view.

They have a fixed stuff of high-qualified workers in Wetzlar. That specialized work can´t be scaled for some months through any contract-factory. (Otherwise the "Made-in-germany"-badge would be a joke.) And Leica has to keep these people busy not only in the initial phase of an new product. I waited different months for my order, when the new X1 was announced in 2010. I was ready to do so, instead of getting an low-quality-article earlier. Maybe we have to wait even longer, because holidays are starting (even in Wetzlar...). After a good holiday the new cameras will be faultless for sure.

Well...not a good production planning. There are may products which are "Made In Germany" and they do keep up with market demand, Leica whenever launched a new camera they always have this problem, they should learn from past problems.

Totally disagree. This isn't Apple, pounding out products by the million with cheap labour and unlimited money behind them.  Leica is a small company with limited resources. If they built up huge stock before launch and there were problems, or the camera wasn't popular, then a single failed product could break the company.

I buy ex-demo German cars as you have to wait for new ones as well, usually made to order.

If you don't want to wait, you can always buy a Sony.

I've had a few Zeiss lenses and still have the 21mmf2. The Zeiss m-fit are made in batches depending on demand and it can be pot luck whether or not new ones are available at all.

I'm still waiting as well. I do believe there must be some middle ground here. Think of other highly scarce and in demand luxury goods (such as their partner, Hermes). There is still waaay more supply than this.

BTW, I was recently told by a couple different dealers that Leica will be shutting down for an extended holiday, thus don't expect any shipments in August. If this is really true, who launches a new product less right before a planned holiday period??

+1.  IMO they will lose a lot of potential sales, at least in the US.  Nobody really enjoys waiting for 3-4 months...

That is indeed what a lot of people will do.  They Sony a7rII is about to be released.  People will buy what is available now.  They won't wait till October.

That is not an excuse. If Leica offered made to order products then I would be happy to wait. Otherwise Leica needs to do a better research of the market and try to estimate potential demand. Shortage of stock could be just as damaging for Leica as a faulty product model.

Still, on the positive side forcing customers to wait is usually beneficial because it gives customers time to find out what the fault will be with the particular model :D

On another topic, a user told that, Leica had sent e-mail to B&H saying that there would not be any new batch until 7th of October.

I also read on another topics about some 1-2 months delays for some dealers.

Even I can't find any Leica Q in Leicaland ( Germany )  right now.

The only alternative with higher numbers in stock at the product-start would have been a later product-start.

Nobody would have got his camera earlier - only some would have got it later. Those happy ones, who have got it already now.

This is a new product. They can´t ramp up their production-line that far, that their workers have to sit on their hands in one year, when first demand is going down. And they can´t find workers with the necessary skills only for 6 months...

There is a high amount of handwork in this products.

I think it´s no question, that they shift some workers temporarily from the M-Lines etc. towards the new Q-production.

Under the line this is the consequence of buying highly handmade products (when there is high demand).

I understand but then why opening Leica Stores all over the globe if you don't have the goods available anyway...

Some stores currently have waiting lists for the Q, Monochrome, Summilux 28mm, etc.

If you want to support the Leica Store concept you need a better supply chain IMO.

For a lot of people the whole Q delivery debacle will turn into a very bad customer experience, especially first time Leica buyers.

I remember  a similar issue when the X1 was introduced.  A little availability at first then a several month delay.

I did not pre-order and gave up waiting.  then about 6 months later my wife surprised me with a x1.

A small niche company cannot afford to make a large number of cameras on an unknown product..... look at the "T".  From what I read it is not selling very well-- they certainly would not have made it unless they thought it was going to be a well received product.  Same could be said of the "Q"-- they thought it would be well received-- it could have been a slow seller like the "T"...

It is easy to be right looking in the rear view mirror.

I just checked on my order @ B&H and was also told not before October.

I hope they're wrong....
