Mistral75 Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1221 Posted September 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Conflicting information from the other post said it would launch with a 50/2 cron. I definitely trust Digital Camera Info when they write "読者の方から" = "as instructed by a reader"; it's their way to say they have seen, or somebody they know and trust has seen, a (marketing) document with the corresponding information. edwardkaraa Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1223 Posted September 28, 2015 The three lenses to be announced together with Leica SL: - Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8-4 / 24-90mm ASPH. - Leica Apo-Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8-4 / 90-280mm - Leica Summilux-SL 1:1.4 / 50mm ASPH. Source: Digital Camera Info http://digicame-info.com/2015/09/sl3.html That sounds very specific. Hope they know what they're talking about, because the lens choice is very interesting. freitz Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1226 Posted September 28, 2015 That sounds very specific. Hope they know what they're talking about, because the lens choice is very interesting. Interested to see how big the lenses are too. From the sound of everything I don't think putting M lenses on this camera is going to be that great of a solution. Also curious about the performance of above mentioned 50 Lux for the SL - I imagine it will cost upwards of 5k just for that lens if made to the same quality as M with Auto Focus. gpwhite Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1229 Posted September 28, 2015 While he is at it, does MJH want to comment on the possibility of either an SL-M adapter or SL-R adapter? It would be clunky to go SL-M/ M-R combo, but if the SL sensor is Q quality and without the baked in image processing for legacy lenses, then the beautiful R glass might finally have a happy Leica home. mjh Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1231 Posted September 28, 2015 While he is at it, does MJH want to comment on the possibility of either an SL-M adapter or SL-R adapter? Leica would have to go out of their way to prevent that possibility.
algrove Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1232 Posted September 28, 2015 Just orer whatever it is and tell us how it performs. BUT will it make your image making better? I use R lenses on my M240 platform cameras and have no issues with image making.
Likaleica Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1233 Posted September 28, 2015 Leica would have to go out of their way to prevent that possibility. Correct me if I'm wrong please, Michael, but if it will be possible to use M lenses on the hypothetical SL camera, that almost defines it as an EVF camera, rather than a reflex, because the size of the mirror box would prevent use of M lenses. Obviously, yes. As I have said a couple of times now: There won’t be a new DSLR system, from anyone.
johnbuckley Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1235 Posted September 28, 2015 If this lens lineup is correct, this is beginning to all make sense. An EVIL with a native set of system lenses in very interesting denominations. No, I wouldn't have to buy an S, or a Canon, for AF wildlife photography. And if you'd rather use your M, or R, MF lenses, Leica says, be our guest (not Sony's.). This honestly sounds like a brilliant concept, fixing multiple Leica deficiencies at the same time: a sort of successor to the R, that lets you use R lenses or new AF lenses; at long last, a full frame EVIL; something that can still be used by those of us with investments in M lenses, but a need/desire for AF too; and potentially, a camera for those of us who would love an S, but can't justify the expense. I suspect if what I envision is accurate, it's not something I'll rush to get. But if, say, my family and I go on another safari sometime, I'd sure rather have the SL than invest in an S, or buy a Canon. Very interesting, if this is correct, almost no matter how the finder operates.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1236 Posted September 28, 2015 Your M lenses wont work on the SL- 601.......why would they??
jaapv Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1237 Posted September 28, 2015 Why not? It all depends on the register distance chosen. It would be smart to accommodate M lenses, as it would tie more old-time users to the new system.

You mean like putting Leica M lenses on the Sony A7 system..........I just don't see it, my gut feeling is that the new SL-601 will be targeted at those of us that only want AF. Peter Kilmister Posted September 28, 2015 Share #1239 Posted September 28, 2015 Well it all seems really daft to have an M system that is brilliant, an S system that is amazing, a Q that 28mm users love, and then come up with another system called perhaps SL that might or might not allow M or R or T lenses to be adapted. I really think this discussion is in fantasy land now.

I really think this discussion is in fantasy land now. Because it has all the hallmarks of an little S-sibling in its form factor, I wouldn't be surprised if the S-lenses can also be used in cropped version with an adapter. Jack of all trades then...
