Short answer: No.

Slightly longer answer: The next M-E will be announced when the new M is. As the next M-E will probably be a variant of the M (Typ 240) with virtually all the features offered by the latter, introducing it any earlier wouldn’t make sense.

I think I have to agree with your analysis.  The new M that will be announced September will have an updated sensor and wouldn't be surprised that its the same one in the Q along with minor updates to video, IO speed and larger buffer.  I like the idea of an updated M-E in December.

[...] The new M that will be announced September [...]  I like the idea of an updated M-E in December.

Little chance that the M-E will be announced after (or before) the M as suggested above so an announce in September remains uncertain for both cameras.

I just been in Barcelona, Bangkok, Cambodia, Bali over the last 4 weeks.

Agree that lots of Canikon DSLRs in Barcelona (i.e. Europe), some Fuji, but the striking thing about the Chinese and Japanese who comprise the majority of the tourists in SE Asia is that probably 95% use phones. Otherwise, mostly cheaper Canikon DSLR with package midrange zoom lenses.

The only other Leica seen was an M9/28mm Summilux on a classy looking gent in the Mercer Hotel in Barcelona (a classy joint).

Had a long transit in Bangkok on the way back. The camera store in the airport had very few Canon/Nikon DSLR. Mainly compacts from a wide range of manufacturers, otherwise Sony A7 and Olympus OM-D were featured premium products.

If you had the chance to mingle with local photo enthusiasts you would have seen the most Leica gear in any part of the world. Though most tend to shoot with mirrorless Fuji and Sony.

I mentioned without video mainly because it seems me many "purist" do not like it. Yes, it makes sense to announce it when there will be the new M. Let see what happens...and when...

The only difference between the M240 and a M-E based on the M240 would be the "rec" button at the top plate of the camera. I don't use or like that button, but that is all.

The M-E is now the M60. I would like to see that camera offered as a regular product.

Well, not the Q  sensor unaltered. That one is designed as a unit with the Q lens. I would not be disappointed, though, if Leica would not fall into the Megapixel trap. 24 is more than ample for all reasonable purposes. in fact. if I want to go for the best colour rendering and presence I will have to grab my 10 MP DMR...

Interesting - so, no new M this year. I'm not at all disappointed. New M-E based on the M(240) - if we consider what happened with the M9, that would suggest a new direction with the new M when it is released. 2016 Photokina?

New system in October? Available in stores for Christmas!  EVF in SLR form factor (as is the A7, but hopefully better designed).  Leica is good at this - I wonder what its unique selling point will be?  The T suggests that it will need to be more than a pretty body and iPhone style touch screen. Modified Q sensor?  AF, weather sealed?  I do actually hope it is an adaptation of the T user interface ... I do hope, though, that it does not have fixed Auto review and EVF black out. That was hopeless on the T.

I'm saving for a 28 Summilux, if it ever arrives ...

Why do you say no M?  It is 3 years, isn't it?  And why SLR form factor for a new system?   The Q shows the form factor can be quite compact.  I hope they folllow the Q design rather than the T.

?????? - How do you figure this?

M-E = CCD sensor and natural frameline illumination

M60 = CMOS sensor and LED frameline illumination

Except we're forgetting about the patent for some newfangled optical/VCF that started this thread. Something new IS coming.

There may be something new coming (isn’t there always?) but it may not incorporate the technology hinted at by that patent.

Picking through hints and comments made by people who almost certainly know what's coming ...

I wasn't commending the T design (though I do actually like it); I was more referring to the user interface (touch screen and the way the menus are organised).  There is almost zero chance (in my view) that Leica will ignore how people actually want to use this camera when considering how the camera will actually work.  We won't end up with a Sony mess - I expect focus and F stop set by rings on the lens(?), shutter dial, EC dial (?) etc etc ...
