Leica S Image thread

These were close up shots from a set of small waterfalls. They were photographed as a set of three shots to be a triptych with the water bubbles captured "frozen". The streams of water could be in motion. Previous water work told me the a shutter speed of 1/4000, the max of an S 007, would be good to go. It was then required to put the ISO at 3,200 to be able to achieve f8. Even at f8 I would need to do focus stacking using the 120mm S macro. I was metering for the highlights as the white bubbles needed to retain definition. While 1/4000 would normally not require a tripod, focus stacking and alignment for a triptych would require a tripod with a panoramic head. I shot it with and without a polarizer, and decided to go without to gain adequate f stop and ISO. It was shot in open shade and the effect of the polarizer was more of a ND filter rather than polarizing. I obviously didn't need an ND filter.

The final output was printed metal on three panels of 40"x60". Yes, you can discern the grain/noise at 3,200 ISO if you are ten inches from the print. This was the second time I've printed huge on metal. Metal doesn't work on all types of shots, but for water, it looks great. While costing four times what paper would cost, it is actually a huge cost savings by skipping matting and framing for something this large. Metal also allows one to skip museum glass for further savings in framing and especially weight. Again, frameless metal works in certain installations. This was going into a private gym and the industrial look of the equipment was matched by the industrial look of the metal frameless prints. Outside the windows is a pool and the color of the panels matches the color of the pool.

The prints are surprisingly light weight, and set off the wall by a concealed black wood spacing frame.

The shot on the right has abstract qualities of a Georgia O'Keefe flower.
