Adobe Lightroom Complimentary License with Leica M!!!

From all the answers received, based on actual experience of all Leica colleagues in this forum, I still insist that it is the main responsibility of the software provider (Leica) to issue a statement to existing owners of Leica cameras and to clarify "What the existing owner of a Leica gets or does NOT get"! whether through using s/n or TAN, first time or second time, before/after announcement of LR6!!! It is a complete confusion!!!!

You can insist here in the forum as much as you want... maybe you should just contact Leica. ;)

I am seriously considering to do so, but preferred first to discuss it in the forum, maybe I might be missing a point before addressing Leica officially...

I guess it is just a problem or bug with their registration or TAN process. I am pretty sure you will receive LR6 if you contact them.

Good luck!

I upgraded to LR6 because of the HDR and Pano features which I use a lot. Quite happy with the new features.

Don't rush to upgrade though... the software seems to be still in beta, and crashed twice in one hour on my Mac.

I agree. I went back to LR5.

FYI

I purchased my Leica M-P about 2 months ago

I recently registered as the original owner a few weeks ago before the LR6 announcement

I registered my TAN number just a few minutes ago and received a download link to Lightroom 6

Really? It's not that hard.

You're supposed to get the current version as of the date you first use the TAN. If you use it again you'll get the same version you received the first time you used it. Any subsequent upgrades after this are optional and at cost except point upgrades (5.x to 5.xx) which are free.

It takes Leica a few weeks to get everything sorted after the upgrade from v5 to v6. Adobe needs to provide serial numbers etc. If you get caught up in the confusion, contact leica and if you ask nicely they'll sort any issues out. When there is a major version change a few people get caught up and need to make a phone call or send an email.

See? Pretty easy.

Well it's not that easy...

When I first used my TAN in March 2015 I received LR5. When I used the same TAN again in May 2015 I received LR6. :)

The way it worked for me is download from Leica`s site.  The furnished key unlocks it.   ADOBE WILL HAVE NO RECORD OF IT.

Now hop on over to Adobe and register it after you figure where the serial # is hidden in LR.   From then on you can follow the normal upgrade procedure.

Adobe will not tell you where to find the serial.  Trust me,  it is there somewhere.

But when you register with Leica, they send you the LR Serial Number. There is no need to go around trying to crack the software.

I just downloaded LR6 from Adobe (when I found it - NOT easy) and used the Leica-provided SN. It was very easy. There was no need to download anything from the Leica site.

I did exactly as Andy described and don't recognise a lot of the processes being discussed here. The software is provided by Adobe and is only available directly from them. If you follow the very clear process set out on the Leica website it is very simple.

I just entered my TAN number through the Leica site, and I was directed to a site called "arvato Bertelsmann" who sent me a small software. I clicked it and everything was very straightforward from then. I got my licence number and could open LR6..... that I don't use yet because of the bugs.

I've been lucky with LR6. No crashes for me. Either I don't use the functions that cause the issue or it's because I use the CC subscription. Either way, I've already put about 5000 images through with no issues.

Having said that, there's no change to the rendering vs V5 and I'm not that impressed with the first version of the HDR function that I think the upgrade is a big deal. A small speed ump (my V5 was very fast already) is about it.

No crashes for me and LR6 is noticeably faster on my computer (Macbook pro 15). I actually did notice very slight differences with the embedded and Adobe settings and slightly more latitude with image processing. Maybe it is in my head but more testing will verify this!

I have replaced the NVIDIA Mac video drivers with the stock Apple Mac video drivers, and LR6 seems much more stable. I think the new GPU acceleration features are still not very stable.

I still get crashes when creating panoramas from 20+ shots though.

When you buy a Leica M type 240, then you are getting two licences, correct?? Then if one has already been used a year ago and in case the other one is to be used now, would we get an LRI downloaded LR5 when I purchased my camera back in March.

When I purchased my MP back in March, I downloaded LR5. On my second download last week, I got LR6.

No obvious bugs in my latest LR CC on a PC though I have not used panoramas or HDR. The GPU usage is a mixed blessing: for some functions it is better, and for others it is not, or worse. On the Adobe forum, Adobe state that the GPU is not used for all activities, and that this can cause a slowdown for those where it is not. Future upgrades will see wider adoption of the GPU across the package, so this should improve. I never had much of a speed concern anyway (except for database checking and backup, where the GPU will never be of any help), so I have switched off GPU use for the moment.

Edit: although I'm a fan of LR and PS, may I take this opportunity to say that Adobe's CC application (the bit that handles the upgrades) and in fact the whole of Adobe's CC management and upgrade systems are quite possibly the worst and most flaky software applications I have seen from a major supplier ever? it's just a mess of lockups, undocumented requirements, unintended consequences and residual junk left on your PC. The only way I can get the CC app to run and upgrade LR and PS is in Safe mode. WTF?

Don't rush to upgrade though... the software seems to be still in beta, and crashed twice in one hour on my Mac.

After installing LR6  it was taking 4 to 5 time to get the computer to boot back up, Win7 kept crashing and displaying unexpected interrupt level errors. I uninstalled Dropbox after installing LR6 suspected the two were competing for the Internet connection. Went the old Uninstall software until the computer worked again. LR6 has not crashed since then while running, either. Dropbox worked fine under LR4 which does not require the Creative Cloud license manager. Adobe must assume that they are the only piece of software being run on the computer. I think with Creative Cloud, that is what they are shooting for.

And here is an official reply from Leica:

Dear Mr. Ghandour,

Thank you for your e-mail.

I took a look at the download record of your Leica M #XXXXXXX
You had downloaded Lightroom 5 in January, 2014.

I’m sorry to inform you, but customers who already have downloaded Lightroom 5 before Lightroom 6 was launched  at April 22th, 2015
are limited to the preservation of Lightroom 5. Even if there is still one more download left. The TAN is always associated with the Lightroom version
you have had downloaded first. In your case, Lightroom 5.
I’m sorry for that.

Of course you have the possibility to a regular upgrade directly from Adobe. (http://www.adobe.com)
Here you can choose by scrolling down the website among the different versions of Lightroom CC (with or without "Lightroom mobile" or with or without a "Photoshop").

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or the Leica Software Support Team.

Have a great day!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen |Kind Regards

Nicolas Kaufmann
