Hank Taylor Posted January 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) This man was selling cigeretts and lighters at a busy corner. Usually his customers can only afford to buy one ciggerett at a time... I liked both the color and B/W . I think both work quite well. What do you think? Hank Welcome, dear visitor! Iduna Posted January 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2015 Hank, very interesting story. Your pictures are appealing. The question of color or b&w in this case is difficult. Normally I like b&w because the focus is being on the essential, but here it is the other way round. The color version is a hit. The reason is the contrast and the backdrop is just faded enough. And her I think there is the problem with the b&w version. The subject is merged with the background. You can try to change WB and contrast. Thanks for showing us how the world there is grappling with the survival techniques.
Hank Taylor Posted January 22, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted January 22, 2015 Thanks Iduna, your point is well taken, and I too like the color over the B/w . Hank

Bill W Posted January 23, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 23, 2015 The color version adds more depth even though they are both good. I guess if you only buy one at a time, it keeps you form smoking a lot. By the way, how much is a single cigarette?

By the way a pack of ciggeretts here cost only 90 cents in U.S. currency and I think they sell them each for P4 which is about 10cents. Hank
Bill W Posted January 23, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2015 Wow, I do not smoke but a pack of cigarettes here in Texas probably cost $5 to $6.
Hank Taylor Posted January 23, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted January 23, 2015 Wow, I do not smoke but a pack of cigarettes here in Texas probably cost $5 to $6. Yes and I'm sure with the tax in my State CA is even higher. Bill this is why so many losers come to the Philippines because liquor is very cheep and cigarettes. I can buy a 5th of gin or vodka for around $ 2.20. Someone living on his service retirement or S.S. does quite well here. Hank
