The battery door has a little door in the middle of it. Anybody know what it is for?

My guess would be to pass a power cord through in case one wanted to run the camera from an adapter rather than a battery.

yes, absolut correct. (owner manual)

On the LX100 it is a cover to use optional AC adaptor (DMW-AC10E) and DC coupler (DMW-DCC11) in place of the battery.
