I performed a search and could not find any references where someone was reporting that their M240 LCD screen had scratched. Mine is fine as well.

Out of curiosity, have you scratched your unprotected M240 LCD screen?

Thank you.

Eric

Not a mark. And I don't baby it.

I'm rough with my iPhone which has similar Gorilla glass. Its screen is in perfect condition.

I think it would be hard to scratch it.

That said, for the money Leica charges for the M, they could have utilized sapphire glass. And I don't think it would have warranted a price increase.

I used an iPhone 3GS until the 5 came out, still using the 5, no protector and no scratches on either one. However I don't hang my iphone around my neck where it can bang and scrape against buttons and belt buckles. My iPhones also didn't cost me $6K either, and if the screen got scratched or cracked I could have it repaired for far less money and in far less time than a Leica. For the first month or so I left the factory protector on it, but have recently put on a Sopi tempered glass screen protector which is much clearer. For <$15 it seemed like a reasonable expenditure to help assure that when the time comes to sell my M240 I can put "no scratches on the screen" in the ad. My experience has been that buyers will pay a premium for mint condition and I've been able to keep all my digital Leicas that way without sacrificing usability one iota. My M4 bodies are dinged and scratched from 45 yrs of use, but I never intended to sell them.

At first I tried to use screen protectors but they would get peeled part way off when I put the camera in or took it out of the camera bag. I finally gave up on that and have gone without a screen protector for eight months now.

I have no scratches to report. I am careful with my M240, but I do use it a lot. In my experience, common sense will prevent screen scratches/damage most of the time.

Mr. Murphy never sleeps so when he comes-a-calling, all bets are off.

If you watch out for coat zippers and key rings full of keys you should be fine. Also, don't toss the camera around or lay it down on its back on gritty or hard surfaces. And we're back to that common sense thing... ;)

I use the acmaxx protector. It is made of resin, so it doesn't peel off, doesn't break, but it does scratch a lot.

I have had my M for about 18 months. No scratches ro report. No protector. On M9 I used a Giottos but the gorilla glass on the M240 appears to be very effective without putting anything on top of it.

Black M240, heavy use, comes with me always and everywhere. Medium brassing and scuffing on the paint, but then all my bright chrome Leicas have scuffs too(which I like less than paint brassing btw). Minor scratching on the LCD.

BTW, my iPhone is rather scratched, but has not had an easy life... However, it proves that Gorilla Glass can scratch.
