enboe Posted November 27, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I performed a search and could not find any references where someone was reporting that their M240 LCD screen had scratched. Mine is fine as well. Out of curiosity, have you scratched your unprotected M240 LCD screen? Thank you. Eric

FlashGordonPhotography Posted November 27, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2014 Mine. Are both fine. 1x M and 1 x M-P. The screens look the same condition. Gordon
Rich Paul Posted November 28, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2014 Not a mark. And I don't baby it. I'm rough with my iPhone which has similar Gorilla glass. Its screen is in perfect condition. I think it would be hard to scratch it. That said, for the money Leica charges for the M, they could have utilized sapphire glass. And I don't think it would have warranted a price increase. bocaburger Posted November 28, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 28, 2014 I used an iPhone 3GS until the 5 came out, still using the 5, no protector and no scratches on either one. However I don't hang my iphone around my neck where it can bang and scrape against buttons and belt buckles. My iPhones also didn't cost me $6K either, and if the screen got scratched or cracked I could have it repaired for far less money and in far less time than a Leica. For the first month or so I left the factory protector on it, but have recently put on a Sopi tempered glass screen protector which is much clearer. For <$15 it seemed like a reasonable expenditure to help assure that when the time comes to sell my M240 I can put "no scratches on the screen" in the ad. My experience has been that buyers will pay a premium for mint condition and I've been able to keep all my digital Leicas that way without sacrificing usability one iota. My M4 bodies are dinged and scratched from 45 yrs of use, but I never intended to sell them.
J S H Posted November 28, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2014 Mine is almost exactly a year old, with no scratches yet. I would estimate that the shutter count is approximately 8,000. I would have to say that the glass seems pretty scratch-resistant so far.
Echo63 Posted November 28, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2014 Yes, mine has scratches ! Im not sure if the glass itself has scratched, but there is marks on the screen, it may just be a damaged coating Will post pics a little later
viramati Posted November 28, 2014 Share #7 Posted November 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) none after nearly 2 years. fairly heavy usage
indergaard Posted November 28, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 28, 2014 Yes I have. Hairline scratches though. I can only see them in certain light. Do I care? Not at all. Do I want to protect it? Not at all. Why? Because digital cameras are disposable.
Peter H Posted November 28, 2014 Share #9 Posted November 28, 2014 Nearly two years, virtually daily use, no cases, protectors or anything. Honestly, I can't see any scratches or marks on the screen whatsoever.
krötenblender Posted November 28, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 28, 2014 Mine is over 1,5 years old and while I managed to loose much of the black paint on the body during travels, the display glass is in perfect condition.
Delcredere Posted November 28, 2014 Share #11 Posted November 28, 2014 No scratches despite being daily on a strap across my shoulder for the past year as I am out and about.
edwardkaraa Posted November 28, 2014 Share #12 Posted November 28, 2014 The glass used is quite scratch resistant, but it is brittle and can break easily. The glass is coated with anti-reflective coatings and these can scratch or wear off. That is why I use a screen protector.
Herr Barnack Posted November 28, 2014 Share #13 Posted November 28, 2014 At first I tried to use screen protectors but they would get peeled part way off when I put the camera in or took it out of the camera bag. I finally gave up on that and have gone without a screen protector for eight months now. I have no scratches to report. I am careful with my M240, but I do use it a lot. In my experience, common sense will prevent screen scratches/damage most of the time. Mr. Murphy never sleeps so when he comes-a-calling, all bets are off. If you watch out for coat zippers and key rings full of keys you should be fine. Also, don't toss the camera around or lay it down on its back on gritty or hard surfaces. And we're back to that common sense thing...

lct Posted November 29, 2014 Share #15 Posted November 29, 2014 My Membrane screen protectors are inexpensive, don't peel off easily and are rigid enough to be really bubble free. FWIW.
AlanJW Posted November 29, 2014 Share #16 Posted November 29, 2014 I have had my M for about 18 months. No scratches ro report. No protector. On M9 I used a Giottos but the gorilla glass on the M240 appears to be very effective without putting anything on top of it.

jaapv Posted November 30, 2014 Share #18 Posted November 30, 2014 Black M240, heavy use, comes with me always and everywhere. Medium brassing and scuffing on the paint, but then all my bright chrome Leicas have scuffs too(which I like less than paint brassing btw). Minor scratching on the LCD. BTW, my iPhone is rather scratched, but has not had an easy life... However, it proves that Gorilla Glass can scratch.
indergaard Posted November 30, 2014 Share #19 Posted November 30, 2014 However, it proves that Gorilla Glass can scratch. From my experience gorilla glass scratches fairly easily. I have many scratches in the sapphire crystal glass of my 9 month old watch even, and I don't work in construction or anything like that.
jdlaing Posted November 30, 2014 Share #20 Posted November 30, 2014 I'd question if that was Saphire glass in your watch.
