Whew.. Took a bit to go through all 47 pages! To be honest, I placed an order for a black chrome MA at around page 23. I’ve only been shooting digital, and only Leica M bodies and glass in the last 4-5  years, so I’m really excited about the move to film!

Now it's time to start perusing the I love my M2, M3 and M4 pages! Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of film photography.

What 47 pages are you talking about, pray tell?

What I’m really excited about is I now have both a monochrome or color Leica camera in one body and I can choose to shoot film that I don’t have to simulate with plug-ins anymore. Not to say you can’t do this with the older M bodies or at lower costs. But this felt like the right choice for me.

I even struggle with the 75mm framelines in my M7, even though they’re less minimal than the M-A’s. I am not sure how much it’s muscle memory (given I’ve predominantly been a 50mm user my whole time with Leica Ms, so it’s the 50mm framelines that i naturally look to) …. or whether it’s something that I will continue to struggle with using my 75mm. I’m starting to think it might be the latter.

Hi Jon, I have an M7. How do the 75mm framelines in the M-A differ from the 75mm framelines in the M7? Kind regards, Simon

I have just the M7. The 75mm framelines are clearly more de minimis than the accompanying 50mm, but this is taken even further i believe with the M-A where the 75mm framelines are mere flecks in each corner.

@tri

Here,  how framelines in M-A look like

These pathetic flecks pass for 75mm "framelines" in the M-A.

If there was a line, it wouldn’t be any more accurate.

Must admit I like the "pathetic flecks" for the 75mm and 135mm framelines but then I no longer use either focal length. 😀 That said, when I did have a 75mm, I found the framelines on other M cameras not much more useful. (Being only an intermittent user of a 75mm, I found myself inadvertently using the wrong framelines a little too often and wondering why the resulting photo was so poorly cropped.)

I got my M-A. Maybe QC got better but I have no issues with film advance or any of the other things mentioned in this thread. While it is just a tool, I love how this camera feels in the hand. So nice! To me, it feels like a little something just for the photographer to enjoy and experience as they go about taking pictures.

I'm glad to hear that.

You may want to check one thing that's not readily apparent and is easy to overlook - rangefinder adjustment. Focus on an object far, far away, and make sure the images align perfectly at the precise moment when the lens reaches its infinity stop. If they do, you're good to go. Mine was a bit off. Not by much, but off nevertheless. Fortunately it's easy to adjust if necessary.

Vlad advice is very good one,

but you may be certain that your lens IS calibrated,

as most of mine are not as 'perfect' for this kind of test but they are very nice in real life use (nothing to complain).

In film this calibration thingy (as long time user) is not as picky as in digital use.

May I think that using the combo in real life is the best thing to do.

I looked through the viewfinder and moved the ring to infinity and the thing I was focusing on snapped right into focus. Super sharp! To be honest, I would have been okay if there was a little wiggle room but i'm glad I don't have to worry about it 😀.

Lucky you,

time to use the combo with confidence 😉.

Been on the fence between m4 and m-a for quite a while. Today picked up the m-a. Now the m10-d has a sibling. Happy family 😉
