Black lenses are not to be neglicted either, if taking pictures is more important than "look" :)

If you search for "leica" on flickr I estimate its 50/50 between pics of cameras and pics made by cameras! Surprisingly Nikon has an even greater bias towards gear unlike Sony, Canon, Panasonic etc. Not sure that means anything. I think many of us are fascinated by quality engineering, ergonomics and design which adds to rather than detracts from picture taking. My phone takes some pretty impressive pics but I am just not inspired to go our shooting with it.

I have over twenty thousand images on Flickr, some of which I think are pretty darn good images and unbelievably, this is the most viewed photo in my photostream...  I just can't believe it...

So if the M-A (in silver) is the nicest looking camera on the planet. Which lens most looks the part? I think a lot of the modern lenses from the digital era fail to match the iconic retro looks.

Personally, I don't think the silver M-A looks particularly retro. To me it is just a classic looking M system camera with the engraving being the only non-essential bit of aesthetic fluff. A retro design would include non-flush windows, etc. and probably resemble the M6J special edition. As such, I think it looks good with any of the current range of lenses (including those in black).

I was trying to figure out how to best lay out my equipment for the size of the Halliburton case I had, and laying them out and taking photos of them each way seemed to be the most reasonable way to figure out a layout.  This one's of the finished product, with only a couple of hundred views behind the first one...  both were taken in available light, and IIRC with my iPhone 4s.  you can't get much worse photos... and yet here they are.  That says something about folks who want to look at Leicas I guess...

Uh—this one, of course ;)

Anyway, the M-A is only a M2 in disguise. It grows on you admittedly. Very close to perfection but I was very much underwhelmed with my first impression.

...which begs the question: what did you expect, the camera to juggle and tell jokes?

Very, very pretty - now add a slim 1950's style leather strap and if the body only had a self timer ;-) Pure jewelry it would be.

One question for the M-A owners - does it take IXMOO cassettes or does it share the slim cassette fit of the Leica MP and M7 that prevents the fitting of IXMOO cassettes?

M-A is in this manner has less feature than M4-P :( .

Can not use IXMOO in M-A.

The viewfinder is by far clearer with better contrast in M-A than M4-P that is the nearest brother.

Focussing with M-A is a joy with snap-in/snap-out never seen in my older Ms.

Very much my own sentiment as well. I was ready to put them up for sale but I now use them more often than my MPs.

I've been using my M-A for a full year now.

Today I pulled my trusty M6 out of the drawer for the first time in a very long time.

Would you believe it, the shutter did not fire :-(

Brief panic  ...   then I realize the shutter stroke is so much longer than the M-A.

I love my M-A.

Very true. I just realized this when I picked up my MP last week. Shutter button travel with the MP is much farther compare to that in the MA. I like the MA button travel distance better. This in effect reduces camera shake when triggering the shutter.

The M2 mechanicals were all hand fitted. The M-A is not.

Interesting ...!

I don't post too many photos of equipment to Flickr. Your post made me think, "I wonder what people are looking at in my photostream?" I hadn't looked for a very long time.

I have about 5000 or so photos posted.

The most viewed:

Aside from my selfie portrait with the Leica X (over 7500 views), the three most viewed photos on my flickr stream are these, with between 2600 and 2800 views.

That's an interesting map of responses to photos. It's interesting to me that the two most likes and the two most comments are the same photos, in the same order, and that neither is in the most viewed category.

Well, if I post a picture on Flickr for example of the New York Skyline then I name the picture "New York Skyline" and if I post a picture of my Leica MP then I name that picture "Leica MP". So I would assume that you'll get a lot of equipment pictures if you search by "Leica"...
