Was walking around shooting this wed and suddenly my M refuses to switch on. A quick check and i noticed a burning smell from the battery compartment. No evidence of burning but the smell was really strong. Sent to Leica service immediately and it seems like my M will be on its 8 weeks journey to Solm and back. Anyone had the same problem??

Sounds like you made too many hot pictures!

But seriously, that doesn't sound good. Sounds like a short of some kind, or a fuse that blew, or something. I hope they'll fix it quickly for you.

A resistor or similar has burnt out somewhere on the power input part of the circuitry.

Leica will just exchange the board.

I had a similar but much more dramatic event with my XV charger ..... a loud bang, smell of burnt bakelite and then zilch. Leica exchanged by return of post ....

..... pity the camera fix won't be as speedy ... sorry ... :o
