satijntje Posted September 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) It seems that the new M-P does not have any problems with freezes! The only difference in hardware that could be responsible for this is the new 2 Gb buffer memory in the M-P. If it definitively turns out that this has been the cause of all the freezes, one could argue that the M240 incorporates a design failure. If Leica would have to rectify this, that would mean exchanging the main board for many many thousand of M240's! In Germayn we call this a "Rückrufaktion" that is a very common practice with cars:( Interesting to hear your opinion on this! John
Advertisement Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Hi satijntje, Take a look here No freezes with the M-P, design failure of m240?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bchurchwell Posted September 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2014 Probably not what you want to hear, but through 2563 frames my M240 has never frozen. The rest of the people who have no freezes should chime in and put this to bed.
jaapv Posted September 19, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 19, 2014 Probably an unpopular post too, but with the small buffer I experience no freezes with my early M240..

dant Posted September 20, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 20, 2014 I don't want Leica or anyone else touching my cams. They have froze up 4 or 5 times over the last 10 months. It is no big deal to me, I just pop the battery out.
CheshireCat Posted September 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 20, 2014 It seems that the new M-P does not have any problems with freezes! I wouldn't say so: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/347120-my-lockups-have-stopped.html
250swb Posted September 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Only one freeze with my M240, and I contributed to that so I'm not going to blame the camera. I don't think trying to stir up trouble and angling for a free upgrade is going to work for you. Steve
viramati Posted September 20, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 20, 2014 I have an early M 240 and since the last firmware update I have never had the camera freeze under the conditions that people mentioned beforehand. Anyway I don't really see how anyone can say that the updated model doesn't suffer from this or any other problem when it has hardly been released yet

Jeff S Posted September 20, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 20, 2014 No M freezes for me. But I did briefly get 'mad scrolling' LCD issue, which stopped after new battery. Jeff

bocaburger Posted September 20, 2014 Share #15 Posted September 20, 2014 No freezes here either. Demo M240 with original battery and 2 others I bought used. Always had latest firmware. Using same Sandisk 2GB cards I used since 2008 with M8 and then M9. Then again I'm not shooting RAW+JPG on continuous till the buffer fills, or using LV or EVF or shooting videos. Not even using the LCD for anything but an occasional ISO change.
lct Posted September 20, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 20, 2014 Zero freeze and zero lockup since the purchase of my early sample in May 2013 (8K to 9K frames) but i don't use LV/EVF much and i chose 95 MB/s cards very soon to reduce startup times essentially. mfunnell Posted September 20, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 20, 2014 I've had mine since May and used it pretty frequently. I've had no freezes or lockups. I've barely used the EVF or live-view and used an old Sandisk 45MB/s card initially (maybe the 1st couple of weeks) then new Sandisk 95MB/s cards later. I've had one "weirdness" where I lost a frame (but didn't need to power-cycle the camera). I put it down to trying to release the shutter part-way through the start-up process. Maybe that's right, maybe not. But it's not been repeated. ...Mike
viramati Posted September 20, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 20, 2014 Any freeze under other conditions ?SD card brand/model ? none of these. the only time I have had the occasional freeze is when removing the EVF physically from the camera while it is still in use
indergaard Posted September 20, 2014 Share #19 Posted September 20, 2014 1 freeze on 1.x firmware on my M240 during the course of 10000-15000 images. I wouldn't consider that a design flaw. Have you made 10000 images on the M-P yet?
