It's worth noting that the GoPro, a very popular digital (video) camera, also doesn't have a screen (in fact it doesn't even have a viewfinder).

Its also a camera that you don't focus and has an extremely wide field of view...it doesn't need a viewfinder.

As this thread shows, there are plenty Leica users who find this idea total nonsense.

However, for me, personally, it would make an awful lot of sense.

And I have a feeling there are quite a few who would welcome it.

I would consider it, if done well. I almost never use the M9 LCD except for changing ISO, which could easily be set with an M6 style dial. I disabled the LCD on my A7. Making the camera thinner would be great, as I still prefer the feel of a IIIf body.

If there is a real market out there, the new old school M could be:

- cosmetically the same as the M7 with the same ISO selector (with auto, 1/2 1/4 of the lens length) with EV adjustment

- the knob for rewind the film could be the lens selector and a small LCD as the one on the M8 (this time close to the shutter) could tell which lens is selected.

- then you wouldn't need an LCD if you had a nice EVF.. at the end, what you see it's almost what you get

I wouldn't actually mind something like that..

Quite a few on a geeky forum like this - I think the term used in statistics is biased. ;)

Give me a flip-out screen please. Epson did it 10 years ago.

What people say they want and what they'll actually buy doesn't always match. More than a few said they prefer the look of CCD sensors and could strongly describe their reasons for that preference, but then bought the non-CCD M240 as quickly as they could.

hate flip out screens for their extra girth and fragility. I like the solidity of a fixed screen

Mine works fine after 9 years of use i must say. Great to be able to hide the screen when i don't want to be disturbed. I miss the R-D1 flip-out screen on all my other digital cameras and would be more than happy to get one on the next M. I don't hold my breath though. Some great ideas like this screen or Epson's analog controls are probably out of date in this touch-screen civilization.
