Advertisement Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Hi AlanJW, Take a look here Photokina - All Very Quiet. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Naper Posted August 16, 2014 Share #22  Posted August 16, 2014 No - time management. But not by car The ICE station is next to the Messegelände I understand.  Yes there is a ICE station next to the Messe. it could still be a fair walk, the Messe is a very large complex. The main station is across the river in the city centre, beside the Dom. A short cab ride, to the Messe If you have never been, Cologne is wonderful and even better in September. I was planing on going but my friends son decided he wanted to get married. I tried to convince him not too but wasn't successful.

Its not far at all from Messe station to the exhibition halls themselves. 5 mins. Â As an alternative, there is a delightful little passenger ferry which departs from the 'city' side of the river Rhine, at the base of the Hohenzollern rail bridge. It drops you about 10 mins walk from the Messe entrance on the opposite bank. A few Euros, as I recall from Photokina 2012. Â I'm going on the Friday, as coincidentally I'm in Cologne on business that week. That will be followed by a few days off and a trip to Wetzlar. gyoung Posted August 16, 2014 Share #24 Â Posted August 16, 2014 From memory, the walk across the bridge is interesting and doesn't take too long from the Hbf. Â Gerry
Rick Posted August 20, 2014 Share #25 Â Posted August 20, 2014 Â This means that we may well see a continuation of the CCD line with a better M for the purists. - without video, EVF etc. Hey, they will sell more cameras this way, I think. Â I very much doubt you will see a continuation of CCD. Leica sees CMOS as the future and believes any differences are in the processing. CCD would be a step back for Leica. mjh Posted August 20, 2014 Share #26  Posted August 20, 2014 From memory, the walk across the bridge is interesting and doesn't take too long from the Hbf. Agreed, and I actually prefer a morning walk over the Hohenzollernbrücke over taking the S-Bahn to Deutz – it will be the last chance to inhale some fresh air for many hours. But if the last time you visited photokina was a couple of years ago you may have the old fair in mind that was situated immediately at the right bank of the Rhine. The new fair is behind that area, beyond the subway tracks – the new Halle 1 (which is booked by Leica again) used to be the last hall of the old fair. gyoung Posted August 20, 2014 Share #27  Posted August 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Its actually 20 years since I went to Photokina! And it was certainly next to the river. I have been to Koln since then but not to the Messe  Gerry
spylaw4 Posted August 23, 2014 Share #28  Posted August 23, 2014 An easy and enjoyable walk across the Hohenzollernbrücke from the Hauptbahnhof. I'll be there for the Tuesday - travelling by train this time via Brussels on the Monday. Handy little hotel only 10 mins walk from Messe, but back on the Tuesday later afternoon I'm afraid.
