Joshua Lowe Posted May 19, 2016 Share #483 Posted May 19, 2016 (edited) Impossible to tell from a web posting (and not knowing how significant are factors such as exhaust fumes in the scene or post processing choices such as cranking the clarity slider) but there's a low contrast haziness in that photograph that looks like veiling flare. Pretty sure it's haze from the car(s) burning some oil. Blue smoke. The image of the man on the beach demonstrates that same thing. Granted, it is a subtle effect and at web-sized images, even more so. But after review of many other posted images on this thread (and others elsewhere) I'm beginning to see it when looking for it. The portrait shot of the model has that rapid drop off I usually appreciate from MF. The difference in distance scales between the current Summilux/Summicron 50 lenses and the APO 50 stands out to me, too. tobey bilek Posted May 19, 2016 Share #484 Posted May 19, 2016 I've read a number of reviews that the 50 APO starts to get towards a medium format feel. Is it the 50 APO's way of rendering contrast (high on plane .... then falling off very fast) that is potentially causing this? For those with the 50 APO, do you find it noticeably produces more "depth" to the image - compared to your other M lenses? Karbe works this into his designs on purpose. My 75APO is the same and that is definitely harder to work with than the 75 1,4 was.
BerndReini Posted May 20, 2016 Share #485 Posted May 20, 2016 My 75APO is the same and that is definitely harder to work with than the 75 1,4 was. In what respect? I personally find the cron easier for myself. It is lighter and has shorter focus throw, which makes it faster for me. When photographing women, I prefer the lux of course. rpittal Posted May 20, 2016 Share #486 Posted May 20, 2016 Attached are four greatly reduced images I took with my new M246 and 50AA last December. Obviously, the originals are much clearer, but the tonal range and resolution are very nice to me.... Bob Welcome, dear visitor! graphlex Posted May 21, 2016 Share #488 Posted May 21, 2016 Stunning resolution and contrast. But the effect here is to make England look like New Mexico.

Guest camera man Posted May 24, 2016 Share #493 Posted May 24, 2016 I must be mad? I shoot with my film MPs more than I shoot with my Hasselblad 501cm and lens. I want the 50mm APO lens and I am prepared to sell off my Hasselblad kit! Am I mad?

I want the 50mm APO lens and I am prepared to sell off my Hasselblad kit! Am I mad? Maybe not mad but ask yourself if reducing format size is adequately mitigated by the 50 APO. Some of the Zeiss lenses for Hasselblad are absolutely superb.

Peter Kilmister Posted May 24, 2016 Share #497 Posted May 24, 2016 I had a Noctilux 0.95. Heavy and really big, blocked the rangefinder viewer because of its size. Someone wanted it and had an APO 50. We did an exchange with some money changing hands. (No names, no pack drill. It's all in the past.) I am overjoyed with the APO 50. The person with whom I did the swap has since advertised the Nocti for sale. I hope it sold quickly. The thing is that my wife said that the APO 50 is the best looking lens, not only aesthetically but also the pictures it produces. Who'd argue with management? I want the 50mm APO lens and I am prepared to sell off my Hasselblad kit! Am I mad? Make sure you sell the Hasselblad kit first. I always mark an item to be sold in order to fund a new toy, and never end up selling it. Then again, how much do you get for a Hasselblad these days? Is it worth selling it? They are so beautiful. I know I'm not helping.
