If only they could have just improved and developed the Zoom Finder further... Nick The huge SF58-D is a contender as well I always hoped they might bring out a nice small bounce flash, an updated SF24-D, as I find the 58 makes the camera very unbalanced. satijntje Posted April 14, 2014 Share #43 Posted April 14, 2014 Mina cam last week. Thanks. John p.s. do not use to much soap other wise the glued tape will not dry. I had to try it 2 times before it was fixed....
250swb Posted April 14, 2014 Share #44 Posted April 14, 2014 Yes the smallest amount of detergent just to break the surface tension of the water. Photographic wetting agent is great but not everybody has some. You can with great judgement 'eyeball' the fitting and not use water, but it is important there is no gap under the Thumbie caused by it riding up on the ramp of the original 'grip'. The Thumbie needs to fit snugly into the curve. Steve
jaapv Posted April 14, 2014 Share #45 Posted April 14, 2014 I live in the tropics. High temperature (25-38deg c), high humidity (98% RH) & high rainfalls (can be daily thunder showers) are daily affairs in Singapore.Unfortunately, the badges and mouldings on my cars do not fall off and I do not subject my cameras to unfavourable climate conditions. Earlier tumbie on my M9 survived and I am waiting for the new ones for M240 to arrive. But then I doubt you have many Chimpanzees in the streets, this is where it fell off Welcome, dear visitor! 250swb Posted April 14, 2014 Share #48 Posted April 14, 2014 If you want a new one Jaap just ask! The way I look at it if the Thumbie fell of leaving the tape behind then I must have screwed up applying the tape, no doubt about it, I trust the tape that much. If the Thumbie fell off taking the tape with it then there is the possibility the user didn't apply it to the camera correctly. I'm not asking which way around it happened, I just want people to be happy. Steve
Gibbo Posted April 14, 2014 Share #49 Posted April 14, 2014 Mine arrived this morning and is fitted. I must say it does fit the bill as has been described by others already in this thread. I shall soon be wondering how I managed without it for so long! Thank you, Steve!
jaapv Posted April 14, 2014 Share #50 Posted April 14, 2014 Actually the tape disintegrated, leaving rests on both the camera and (presumably, I never found it) the Thumbie. But I am not blaming anybody or anything for a situation out of spec., basically it was like a Turkish steam bath, only hotter, at least that was the was it felt. Photographing was hell, with everything steaming up and fogged viewfinders. Fortunately neither my M9 nor DMR suffered moisture damage.
luigi bertolotti Posted April 14, 2014 Share #51 Posted April 14, 2014 I live in the tropics. High temperature (25-38deg c), high humidity (98% RH) & high rainfalls (can be daily thunder showers) are daily affairs in Singapore. I know (was there for the first time one week ago) ... but my M didn't suffer... expecially when used by night.... Welcome, dear visitor! satijntje Posted April 16, 2014 Share #52 Posted April 16, 2014 I have lost today my thumbie. At a certain Moment i felt some glue on my fingers, and yes the thumbie wasn't there anymore on my M240! There was glue on the M240, so it seems that the fixing is not 100% save. I will not try a second one, too risky in my eyes..... Good luck to all the other owners. sillbeers15 Posted April 17, 2014 Share #54 Posted April 17, 2014 I have a tumbie on my M9 and now one on my M240. It all went well! If you have no confidence in adhesive, then you should consider never to fly in a comercial aircraft. Today, there are lots of adhesive replacing reverts! 3M would not be a $30+ Billion coy if adhesive is no good!
sillbeers15 Posted April 17, 2014 Share #55 Posted April 17, 2014 Prepare the surface well ensuring greese free. Stick on and leave it to cure and age for at least 24hrs before use! (general rule).
pico Posted April 17, 2014 Share #56 Posted April 17, 2014 I can assure you, Steve, that if you subject it to 115 F. and 100% humidity in the rain it will just fall off. Mine is still somewhere on the ground in Mahale Forest. . But I grant you, the badges would have dropped off any car as well…. My Thumbie worked off my M9, but I probably did not prepare the surface properly. I'll eventually get another. It was wonderful to use. (I removed the badges from my car on a hot Summer day by just pulling them off.)
Guest JMF Posted April 25, 2014 Share #57 Posted April 25, 2014 Where can we buy the Thumbie for the M? I only find the M9 model on eBay and want a straight (not curved) model to try on my Leica CL ! I guess it should fit the Bessa R, R4A and the CLE !? Cheers Jean-Marc.

rafikiphoto Posted May 28, 2014 Share #59 Posted May 28, 2014 I received mine this morning. I have had a Thumbie on my MM for a long time and I don't know what I would do without it! Fixing the Thumbie on the M240 was slightly more fiddly than I remember for the MM because of the existing thumb-rest on the 240 but I practiced a few times before removing the backing tape. It's nicely fitted now and left to set for a couple of hours. The Thumbie on my MM is very nicely 'brassed' now.
woorob Posted June 1, 2014 Share #60 Posted June 1, 2014 I received mine promptly after contacting forum member 250swb. It's a wonderful addition to the M, really helps the balance of the camera during use. An invaluable accessory for the M IMO. Thanks much, Steve!
