Very frustrating....

My membership ran out end of 2012, given paying £20 and awaiting for instalments was not attractive, I have not subscribed again until now. I strongly feel the ongoing membership should be small not £20 a year.

It's still clumsy flash and it's down or certainly not working on my iMAC, I do wish I hadnt bothered :(

Stopped paying for the same reasons. Reading, and trying to evaluate images, in that tiny Flash window just isn´t worth the trouble.

Too bad, really, because the contents were high quality, and would have been well worth the subscription cost in itself. But the nuisance experienced is just too much….:(

Another thing that bugs me a lot: once you stop paying, all the info in the old instalments you´ve already paid for are unavailable as well.

There are more free reviews and camera commentary online these days that no one person could even keep up with them.

Why pay this hack for reading a measly bunch of nonsense?

Come, come….:p

Whatever SR is, he is not a ´hack´. And his texts are very far from nonsense. The problem lies entirely with the awkward method of presentation, not with contents.

I wish the same could be said for most of those free reviews and commentaries…..

The "pay subscription" model for internet content has clearly failed, in 99% of instances.

Even major newspapers and content providers can't make a profitable go of it.

If you want to pay him for reading his content and you feel it is valuable to you, that is your perogative. Maybe he is not a "hack" but I certainly don't think his material is unique.

Actually pay subscriptions are coming back big time

The free stuff is heavy advertisement sponsored or just opinionated

Dpreview is the biggest joke. It's held up as a reference source but is owned and sponsored by clear commercial interests. The interests I like BTW, just not the independence if the site

I really miss Putts ...

I also gave up on him.

His reviews were OK, quite interesting sometimes, but you'd have to be severely hungry for one more review on top of everything else that's so freely available to want to pay good money for such a frustratingly clunky site.

When I purchased my Leica, I subscribed to SR and it was well worth it. For the first 6 months I combed through the M9 and other lens reviews. I believe it was the sole reason why I ended up with some great second hand lenses, both CV and Leica.

That said, I have not renewed for two reasons: there were not many more lens review updates and after a year, I ended up with a set of lenses that I am very happy with. It was well with the initial subscription, but I can understand the reservations expressed here.

My sentiments exactly.

A fantastic resource when on that steep learning and lens-buying curve but less so now I have a substantial Leica system.

And yes the interface is a major pain but probably helps protect his content.

I like his reviews, the fact that he tries to be objective and is obviously not influenced by generating advertising $$ or hits on merchant links. I also think its worth the $35 - at least for my interest. But, I gave up on him and let my subscription lapse because his site doesn't work on my ipad and is really cumbersome to use even on the computer.

I discussed the terrible interface with him (by email) a year or so ago, and I how I couldn't read his content on my iPad.

He had been advised that Flash was the only feasible way to protect his content. I can't believe that's true, but that's what he had been told. I would resubscribe if I could download what I want to read onto my iPad, and read it at my leisure (offline).

The sad thing is that his subscriptions are clearly suffering because he's worried about losing control of his content - so no one is reading it ...

I wonder how much business he have to lose before he accepts that the risk of losing revenues (a real and mostly quantifiable risk) is a bigger threat to his business than the risk of losing control of his content (an esoteric and difficult to quantify risk).
