Jakobben Posted December 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received my M240 a little over a week ago. I immediately went to the Leica Owners website and registered my serial numbers (one lens + one camera). Do I then need to also send in the warranty cards filled out by hand? I cannot seem to figure out if the owners site is sufficient... Thanks!
Advertisement Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Hi Jakobben, Take a look here Warranty card and/or Owners site registration?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I wouldn't assume that databases are joined up and talk to each other in a sensible way (and that's not a criticism of Leica per se; in my experience, it's a fact of life of the IT world). I'd certainly send in the documentation as well.
ayewing Posted December 11, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2013 I think the warranty may not be the same in all countries. I understand that Solms will accept a camera for warranty repairs if the purchase invoice from a Leica Dealer is provided. In the UK it is well worthwhile to send in the registration card as you then receive the Leica Passport which covers the camera for any failure including accidental damage for a year. This is in addition to the normal two year warranty. I understand that the warranty in USA is less generous.
Guest redge Posted December 11, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2013 The U.S. warranty card says on its face that it must be returned regardless of on-line registration.
Jakobben Posted December 11, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted December 11, 2013 Ok, thank you all. I'll make sure to send it today :-)
AlanJW Posted December 11, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2013 Under US law the card does not need to be returned no matter what they say. You may be asked to provide proof of purchase and if it is within the warranty period the manufacturer must provide the warranty service it offered at the time of sale. Jakobben Posted December 11, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted December 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks WeinschelA. I currently live in the US, but will be moving to Europe next summer (that is where I'm from originally). Therefore it is probably better to be safe than sorry. jaapv Posted December 12, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 12, 2013 In Europe there is no need to send in a warranty registration. Proof of purchase suffices.

jaapv Posted December 12, 2013 Share #10 Posted December 12, 2013 I once sent in a camera where I had lost all the paperwork - Leica looked up the date of shipment for me . No precedent, but an example of Leica's attitude.
kdriceman Posted December 13, 2013 Share #11 Posted December 13, 2013 The U.S. warranty card says on its face that it must be returned regardless of on-line registration. This is what the card says, but in practice all Leica NJ has ever asked for from me is a copy of the sales receipt in order to perform warranty work. What you and Weinschel are missing is that, required or not, it costs about 50 cents to send in the postcard. What is that worth? Well, when I needed warranty work on my Arca Swiss ballhead, it meant that I called their Chicago office, they found my warranty file within a few minutes and immediately agreed to do the work. If you want to have to send Leica USA your purchase documentation and/or get into a debate, go ahead. That statement is not only wrong, especially in the age of the internet, it is as it relates to Arca Swiss truly hilarious.

I've sent all my cards in because, well it is only $.50 and it might save me some effort sometime. But if you lost it or don't send it in, i wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I don't think it is going to affect your warranty service.

I can't imagine Leica refusing to honour the warranty in relation to someone who can provide proof of purchase, nor do I believe that it would have a legal right (at least in Canada and the US) to do so. ayewing Posted December 14, 2013 Share #20 Posted December 14, 2013 I bought a new Leica recently, registered on -line and within two weeks received a Passport etc from Leica UK. Something works OK. I was impressed! I am glad that they have improved their service. My Leica M240 arrived in August and I sent in the registration card promptly as well as registering on line . After four weeks of no response I wrote again and two weeks later two Passport packs arrived within a few days of each other.
