Guest Posted November 29, 2013 Share #41 Posted November 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) … To complete the Story: Perhaps Grandpa paid for it with 50 cigarettes on the black market, so give him a rod Lucky Strikes with 214 cigarettes and he has made a profit of over 400%. Advertisement Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Hi Guest, Take a look here Old Leica from my grandpa .... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted November 30, 2013 Share #42 Posted November 30, 2013 Your grandpa was very badly informed when he bought this thing. This is aVERY BAD copy, get rid of it. A mod. should throw all this into a dustbin AFAP ... Best GEORG I think it is quite instructive And shame on you, Jochen, for the windup…
earleygallery Posted November 30, 2013 Share #43 Posted November 30, 2013 I think we are looking at the infamous 'lost Leica', it was Hitlers personal camera made to his own specification with the timber cladding. If genuine this camera is basically priceless. Put it to auction and the apple M at $1.8m will seem cheap by comparison.
Guido Posted November 30, 2013 Share #44 Posted November 30, 2013 It's strange that folks regularly seem to get their Leica from grandpa. Since the odds are in favor of women surviving their husbands due to longer life expectancy, we should actually see a lot more Leicas being passed on from grandmothers. On a side note, it's a sign of the pre-digital age that grandpa always stuck with his 3rd Reich Leica for life instead of upgrading to the latest M7
frasier Posted November 30, 2013 Share #45 Posted November 30, 2013 Ok guys ... lesson learned There is a saying here in Germany that is going like this: "Gier frisst Hirn" (greed is eating brain), which is very true in this case. So shame on me! I bought this from somebody on "ebay local" for 150 bucks. I thought I hit the jackpot - an old leica for 150 bucks ... WTF! So anyways ... can you recommend some literature where I can study the real collectors stuff? And how can I recognise any fake models from the real stuff? Thank you and again my apologies to all of you. Best, Jochen
sabears Posted November 30, 2013 Share #46 Posted November 30, 2013 As another saying goes: Disteln tragen keine Trauben! However... thank you for your honesty, if you need help here we are! Made Behind The Former Iron Curtain<<. Das Teil da oben war EUR 100 bis EUR 120 zu teuer. jc_braconi Posted November 30, 2013 Share #48 Posted November 30, 2013 If you compare the cameras you already own, you really think that Leica was able to build this kind of s...? the subject of your 1st pict in your posted album is just smiling about you... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/members/10429-albums.html
Guido Posted November 30, 2013 Share #49 Posted November 30, 2013 I wonder if Customer Service in Solms actually get such cameras for CLA or repair, and how they handle these requests BTW: I just took a close look at the engraving: "Meine Ehre heibt Treue". How could you overlook such an obvious typo??

frasier Posted December 2, 2013 Share #52 Posted December 2, 2013 I don't understand why you posted this... with over 400 posts here. I don´t understand your question!? What does this have to do with the amount of posts I had here? I was just blue eyed and I admitted my mistake ... that´s all. No big deal I guess. Or do you want to relegate me from this forum? UliWer Posted December 2, 2013 Share #53 Posted December 2, 2013 The international as well as the german part of this Forum each have their "Collectors and Historica" sections, and there is a Wiki in English and German. Reading some of what is written there probably is the best resource for some knowledge about the old stuff.
earleygallery Posted December 2, 2013 Share #54 Posted December 2, 2013 There's a lot of info and examples of all sorts of LTM cameras in this thread; http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/13842-ltm-users-its-time-stand-up.html Once you know what a genuine LTM Leica looks like you will spot a fake like yours a mile off! Maybe we should start a 'how to spot a fake Leica' thread?! The trouble is by the time someone has found us, it's usually too late as they've already parted with their cash.
