I hope it doesn't affect the way any of us exchange opinions with each other.

I hope that it doesn't affect them either.

However, this forum is for discussion of photography. I'm not sure that it is on-topic to start making disparaging references to people's values and to query their sense of taste if it is different to your own.

In fact I think that those kinds of pointed comments are unhelpful and are lacking in good taste themselves.

I think that this forum is a rather more elegant place.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I don't entirely agree.

I think honesty is more important than elegance, although it's very nice when both can be combined.

But if you think I overstepped the mark in the way I raised my objection to the substance of this thread , I offer you and anyone I may have offended my apologies. It was not my intention to be offensive, but I do not apologise for expressing my sincerely held opinion.

No.

It's conditional on whether the wish to remove the "Olympus" name is based on a feeling that it is something to be ashamed of. If he doesn't feel that it is, then clearly it doesn't apply. But If he does feel it is something to be ashamed of, I stand by what I've said.

I do feel that brand snobbery is a very distasteful thing. I hope this isn't an example of it.

It is just that I hope to avoid the accusation of being a cheapskate by not buying the Leica one :p

If it really worries you a piece of black electrical tape will do the trick, otherwise just enjoy the confusion of whether you now have a leica or some new strange olympus. I really can't understand why anyone would buy the leica version when you can pick up a olympus version for under £100 on ebay

Peter the reason I don't want it to say Olympus is because I don't think it looks nice, I'd rather have the Leica version because it looks better, but I don't feel that it is worth the extra money for just the cosmetic difference.

I just want it because I think it looks better, it has nothing to do with me not wanted to walk around with a piece of Olympus, since I'm doing that anyway, even with the real Leica version...

I just want it, and I have had allot of reactions but non tell me how I SHOULD try doing it...

I've had a few reactions as to be careful with certain chemicals and I thank those for that...

But the whole, political bla bla snob bla bla is not of my interest, now I wil go replace the skoda logo's with VW logo's because I'm that snob.... (I'm kidding)

It is not an Olympus viewfinder to begin with.

Olympus and Leica both buy them from Epson.

Yes a big Leica label looks better than a small Oly one for you and a lot of people i guess. Matter of tastes as usual. I don't feel cleverer with my ugly red dot hidden behind an even uglier piece of tape. :D

Ugly red dot?

BLASPHEMY!

No, I don't want ANY logo, thats why I had a M9-P... but since there are no BLACK dots yet...

I shoot with both Leica and Olympus, so I am already irredeemably corrupted. :D I sometimes put Leica lenses on my Olympus E-M5. I've even done the following, to get around EVF lag:

Homage to Feininger's "The Photojournalist" | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

(Sorry it's not a real SBOOI, I sold mine to a collector when it started separating).

Religiously, I belong to the Fellowship of Whatever Works. Our only dogma is "Never Use Flash. Unless you absolutely have to. And then it's OK, as long as you feel a little guilty."

I think if there is a danger of snobbishness spreading it is a good idea to test the theory and if necessary try to prick the bubble early. Otherwise I, Peter, and everybody who doesn't wish to be tarnished by the association has to put up with people who buy camera and lenses because of the name on them rather than because they are photographers first and foremost. :D It's one thing having a joke about Nikon, Canon, and Olympus (as they do about Leica users), but it would become a bit creepy if logo removal was taken any further than the odd case of aesthetic judgement.

Brand snobbery is in a similar league to the chic slang syndrome of 'cron', 'lux', and anything referring to 'fast glass'. It is a medal of coolness awarded by the user to the user in the hope it meets peer approval. The point is, not many people care what other people do, unless it appears foolhardy and ill thought out, in which case they may be kind enough to ask a searching question regarding the reasons for wanting to remove a logo etc.

I suggest trying cellulose thinners to remove the printed logo if the ABS body of the EVF is black. So long as the thinners are applied on a cloth the raw black ABS plastic should be unaffected. If the body of the EVF is silver it is painted, and then the logo printed on. So thinners may also bring the silver paint off. As always, try on an inconspicuous area first.

It is ..... and they do.

That's why I resprayed mine .......and more to match the colour with the Silver Chrome M than get rid of the logo .... it is an unpleasant yellowish silver and looks horrible....

I was thinking about removing the Olympus branding from my EVF as well.

Then I saw it in real life, and I can't imagine anyone actually noticing the Olympus branding at all. It's so discrete that I don't mind at all. I wish the Leica branding was as discrete!!
