Advertisement Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Hi jedi996sps, Take a look here The Sony A7 thread [Merged]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ozkar Posted October 16, 2013 Share #583 Posted October 16, 2013 The A7/A7R seems to be perfect for street photography and shooting that requires the photographer to be discrete as well.Considering the fact that people will hear the A7/A7R's shutter from across the street. You'll get everyones attention. Great! NO DUST? ... electronic dust removal systems aren't exactly THAT effective. You'll get a lot of dust that requires manual cleaning with the A7/A7R as well. I find it funny that you list all those pro's without even having held a A7/A7R in your hands. Have you even held a M240 in your hands? I sold my M9P around a month ago and had an M loaner for 1 week. Dust was very rarely a problem with any camera I owned that had ultrasonic sensor cleaning. It was always a problem with the M9P and continued to be a problem with the M. As far as I can tell from that video, the shutter in the A7R is no louder than that from my M9, and that was never a problem. Another big gripe with the M was that I still had to contend with centre focus/re-compose. The 50 LUX ASPH (my most used lens) is a very difficult lens to focus accurately wide open, due to field curvature. The ability to choose a focus point anywhere in the frame, with the A7R, will be very welcome. While the A7R is not perfect (no camera is perfect) it gets so much right for $2500. More so than the M240 for $7000.
Bill W Posted October 16, 2013 Share #584 Posted October 16, 2013 Reading the announcement this morning, this is a very interesting system. It appears to be a small footprint and I like built in VF. I did not see anything about an adapter for Leica. I am not that well versed in adapting to other systems. Does Sony alraeady have an adapter that works or will there be plans for one with the A7? Ozkar Posted October 16, 2013 Share #585 Posted October 16, 2013 As a matter of interest, will you also use one of the Sony lens or just get an adapter (metabones?) and use with Leica glass?... i have just ordered mine, A7r I would go for the Zeiss 24-70 zoom along with a couple of Leica primes. In my case, I'm particularly interested in using my 50 LUX ASPH. This comment from Steve Huff has really piqued my interest: "I also have a sneaking suspicion that this camera will deliver better results than the Leica M with certain Leica lenses. The 50 Lux was magical on it as when I focused (which was a piece of cake due to the large EVF) it was just as quick as when I use the RF of the Leica, but when the image played back the result was massive 3D depth. Almost like a mix of the M8 and M9 together. Crispy yet smooth."
leicatraveller Posted October 16, 2013 Share #586 Posted October 16, 2013 i m very curios about new sony 7R, really a monster of resolution in a very small package, coupled with some small leica & voigtlander primes it will be a very interesting tool what do you think? Not sure about Sony, but there are already a few M mount to E mount adapters on the market, which should work with this camera too. Looking forward to seeing real world reports of M lenses on the A7r.

Bill W Posted October 16, 2013 Share #589 Posted October 16, 2013 I have an X Vario that I truly love but had this been available, I might have opted for it with the option to change a lens and the built in VF.

Thanks. I also intend using it (primarily) with my leica glass and will look to get one of the Sony zooms as they become available, for point and shoot occasions. k-hawinkler Posted October 16, 2013 Share #591 Posted October 16, 2013 There are a great number of adapters. From very cheap to very expensive, say from $15 to $300. By far the best are from Novoflex as they fit precisely. If perfect alignment isn't achieved IQ will suffer of course.
dwbell Posted October 16, 2013 Share #592 Posted October 16, 2013 Really makes me chuckle over some of the comments on this forum in the past year. I'll order the 7r as a back up initially, with an adapter, but if it is that good and becomes my primary, then bye bye M series.
dmclalla Posted October 16, 2013 Author Share #593 Posted October 16, 2013 May be, leica fans will not switch - at least not in a couple of days - to new sony A7/A7R, but for sure, Leica is going to loose a lot of potential new clients. Nowadays, price does matter especially if differences in quality of the image are negligible.

Well, that could happen unless you cannot live without the optical rangefinder. My A7r is supposed to be shipped around December 1, 2013!!!

Appreciate it, as I said I am not well versed in adapters but am tempted to try the Sony maybe later. Of course I need more stuff to go with the stuff I do not seem to have time to use. Bill W Posted October 16, 2013 Share #599 Posted October 16, 2013 Sony wants you to buy the body with zoom. The A7 body is about $1,700 and the zoom is $1,200 but bought as a kit together they are $2,000 if B & H has them listed correctly. The charger is not shown as included even though it might be. It is listed at $48 and batteries are $38. You can buy three batteris for the price of one Leica.
k-hawinkler Posted October 16, 2013 Share #600 Posted October 16, 2013 Hmm, that seems to be roughly the ratio to our favorite supplier.
