Hi Rich,

Many thanks. Indeed, I have been using the HAWK'S FACTORY LEICA-M L-M to SONY NEX E-mount adapter for over year. A must have for sure.

I noticed also the HAWK'S FACTORY LEICA-M L-M to M43 MFT MICRO FOUR THIRDS adapter. Just ordered it. :)

Hr. Heinz,

Would you please share your experiences in using Leica R lenses on Nex 6 or 7?

Which is the shortest focal distance in your act, 21mm, 24mm, or 28mm?

In case 21mm works well, with the crop factor of 1.5 in Nex 7, 28mm lense may performs OK on the coming Nex FF.

Thanks and Regards,

Thomas Chen

Leica R wide lenses shouldn't have any problems on the FF NEX. It's Leica M lenses that may have potential problems.

APO-Telyt-R 180/3.4, Vario-Elmar-R 80-200/4.

The former two lenses I use on tripod only, the latter two I can shoot also handheld pretty well.

The shortest focal length I have is the Vario-Elmarit-R ASPH 28-90/2.8-4.5.

Indeed, I am looking forward using that lens on an FF NEX.

In terms of a WA lens to use on the NEXs and OMD, my favorite lens is the WATE 16-18-21/4. No red edge to speak of. :)

That lens would also be very interesting to try out on an FF NEX. :D

Hello, K.H,

I apologize for my misspelling your first name.

Thanks a lot for your advice, it really helps.

The Leica R-lenses I own are: APO-Telyt-R 180/3.4, APO Macro 100/2.8, 35-70/4, 28/2.8 and 21-35 ( I regret to have sold the R 70-180/2.8) . I also have a WATE M16-18-21/4. Therefore, your experience using the FF NEX in the near future means a lot to me.

Although I prefer a Leica body (not the M240 with bugs to be sorted) for R-lenses, in case FF NEX works very well with the above-mentioned lenses it could be the last resort.

I will consult with you how you deal with the NEX FF.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Thomas Chen

When's the Sony FF due out?

Pete

Still unknown. Sony has kept that a secret. The official announcement for the camera (s) is supposed to be coming in Mid?? October. Sony Alpha Rumors has said that at least one of the model cameras will be shown at PhotoPlus at the Javits Center in NYC between October 24 and 26. I anticipate handling the camera (s) at the show probably on October 24. Hopefully Sony will allow me to mount, with the appropriate adapters, several Leica R and at least one M mount lens on the camera (s). My only M mount lens at this point is my Minolta CLE MC Rokkor-M 40mm f2.0 lens. I may ask some friends including Jim Lager if they can loan me or meet at the show with some wide angle M Leica lenses probably in the 24mm or 21mm range. If push comes to shove, I will tell the Sony reps that I am there from both L Camera Forum and Fred Miranda.com and will be reporting back to both forums. I will also suggest that my/our experience with the camera and lenses could result in dozens of cameras being sold which is true.

Sony Alpha Rumors is now reporting that a FF NEX and an APS-C NEX camera will be announced around October 16 (SR4). :D Additionally, they are suggesting that the camera numbers leaked yesterday were a FF NEX and an APS-C camera.

(SR4) NEX-FF and NEX-APS-C announcement around October 16. | sonyalpharumors

Again, such an announcement would be appropriate with the FF NEX camera (s) being shown at PhotoPlus at the Javits Center in NYC from October 24-26. :)

I'm eager to see what $3K gives over the current Nex 7. It will have to be very compelling.

Quoted from SAR today: "

The image on top shows you the two cheapest Full Frame Cameras on market, the Canon 6D (Around $1,900 now at Amazon) and the Nikon D600 (also around $1,900). According to sources the new cheapest FF camera on market will be the soon to be announced “Sony A7“. Body only will be priced around 1600-1700 Euro/Dollars and there will be a kit option with the 28-70mm lens for less than 2000 Euro/Dollars. I will get the 100% final price soon.

UPDATE: While the A7 with 24MP is priced well below the $2000 mark the A7r with 36MP will be priced above $2,000! "

Rich,

Thanks. If the 36 MP FF NEX works well with my R lenses then there is no need to leitax them for my D800E!

Hello, K.H.,

May I have your advice please:

1. Which focus mode do you use for manual focus with R or M lenses on NEX 6?

Phase detection or Contrast focus such as 5X magnification or focus peaking.

2. For wide M-lenses (21, 24, 28mm or WATE) on NEX FF,which sensor is more appropriate, 36M or 24M ? assuming micro lenses and correction firmware are not available for Leica lenses.

3. The comparison of OOC RAW/JPEG files between NEX 6 and M9 in terms of color, pop, and the ease in PP.

4. Your evaluation for Hawk Factory M-NEX E adapter, operationability, reliability, and the function of focus shift by helical movement.

Thank a lots.

According to the newest rumor the 7r with the 35mp sensor will not have a lowpass filter which is one of the factor of corner smearing and red edge!

If someone could test out how the SEM21 or Elmar 24 or something like that works on the new NexFFs in mid/late October and posts raw examples or highest res jpegs this would be HUGE!!!!!!!!

This month's announcement of the new full-frame interchangeable Sony cameras, the A7 and A7r, will surely cause a stir among owners of Leica lenses. For the first time, to my knowledge, it will be possible to use Leica glass (with adapter) at their correct focal lengths on a non-Leica digital camera. I can see this boosting the demand for leica lenses, including the big catalogue of older lenses. This is a good thing for us whether or not we are seduced by the cameras. But I also imagine many Leica owners will be intrigued by a camera similar to the RX1 with which they can use all their glass without compromise. I have written about this on Macfilos here.

I was hoping that someone would attend PhotoPlus in NYC between October 24-26 would have one to bring. At this point, no one has stepped up suggesting they had a 21mm or 24mm that was attending the show. I have a Leica M to NEX adapter. Hopefully Sony will let us check both Leica M and Leica R lenses on the camera.

Leica does not seem to be interested in this market.

A very large market in $$$, but a mass market in pieces with its own problems.

I would hesitate too.

Jan

You could be right. I don't think Leica would actively go for a market but the market could come to them. If these new Sonys are half good, and the RX1 experience indicates they could be, it will not be long before buyers see them as cheap Ms and start hoovering up older lenses. Either way, it will be an interesting few months. Something new for us to think about.
