StephenPatterson Posted August 15, 2013 Share #21 Posted August 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, but it is unlikely that a screen cover would have protected the camera in this situation. Which is one reason why I use a half case with a rear cover. At least there is some padding/protection from two layers of leather to cushion any blow. Of course in this instance nothing might have saved the LCD, as it was (unfortunately for Jaap) a very hard fall.

egrossman Posted August 15, 2013 Share #22 Posted August 15, 2013 Good excuse (not that you needed any) to focus your attention on the Monochrom until you get your camera back. Thanks Erik. Just a bit of a lame duck and a silly sight getting in and out my car. I hope CS will be not too slow. There seem to be no parts shortages. I really need the camera in a week or four. marknorton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #23 Posted August 15, 2013 Sorry to hear of your mishap Jaap, how about a picture so that we can share your pain - of the camera, not your bruised knee.

andybarton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #25 Posted August 15, 2013 Sorry to hear about this accident Jaap. I hope that the two of you are mended and reunited soon. Aren't you the one who fell into a ravine with your M8? And showed photographs of at least two car accidents over the last few years. Remind me not to accept a lift with you again
dwbell Posted August 15, 2013 Share #26 Posted August 15, 2013 Very sorry to hear that Jaap. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Could this trip to Solms be the excuse you needed to add that unique Jaap look to your M? Get well soon.
jaapv Posted August 15, 2013 Author Share #27 Posted August 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Too many thanks buttons to hit, thanks everybody. Yes, the camera is insured. In theory I could even claim the costs from the city for not cleaning up after their work. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy repair. It should be in Solms this morning. mboerma Posted August 15, 2013 Share #30 Posted August 15, 2013 Ooouch. That looks seriously used. Hope you are getting better soon, Jaap. The camera will be taken care of I'm sure.
wlaidlaw Posted August 15, 2013 Share #31 Posted August 15, 2013 Jaap, Sorry to hear about the accident to you and your camera and hope you will both be soon recovered. Makes us UK buyers see how lucky we are to have the Passport scheme. I still have been unable to find an insurer who will cover me for over 90 days out of the UK per annum, so currently running uninsured. IWC Doppel Posted August 15, 2013 Share #33 Posted August 15, 2013 Really sorry, too, I have nearly done the same twice with leather soled shoes on 'polished' cobbles.. It is everyones nightmare, I'm sure Leica will return like new, shame they haven't announced the 'P' version it would have been a perfect excuse for a cosmetic upgrade Scratching my car, kerbing new alloys, bending the needle on my record player, dinigng my watch against a concrete wall always depress me too

hamey Posted August 15, 2013 Share #36 Posted August 15, 2013 Sorry about your unfortunate accident Jaap. 10 years ago I did the same to my little Rollie 35s now it's stuffed and mounted. As a 64 year old it's someting I worry about as I have had a few trips in my time. Hope all works out for you. Ken.

Dear Jaapv, I am sorry to hear about your accident! The camera looks really FUBAR! But it is "just" a camera, and I hope Leica fixes it quickly. It is good you did not hurt yourself more than you did. Happy recovery. Best regards Trond
marknorton Posted August 15, 2013 Share #38 Posted August 15, 2013 That's quite a bang the camera has taken. I can see Leica reserving a repair slot even now... Hopefully, it will all be back as new before too long - new back, new baseplate, new top. The insurance company must really like your custom!

wlaidlaw Posted August 15, 2013 Share #40 Posted August 15, 2013 That's a surprise with your background and contacts Have you tried a French insurer? Andy, The only current way round my problem would be to buy an annual policy in both countries and that would be well over £1,000 for say £17,500 any one loss (2 bodies, 3 lenses). I have tried to interest a couple of my old colleagues in an Europe wide annual + 60 days outside Europe, non-professional Leica cover plan. To get the sort of coverage I currently need, I have to go to a professional photographer plan, which given their type of usage, is inevitably expensive. No real interest so far, I regret. Now I am no longer doing paid archival/museum work, I don't need professional coverage other than the sum insured. Most non-professional UK coverages are limited to a maximum of £7,000 any one loss, which does not even cover an M240 plus say a MATE. Wilson
