for me, dust on my pictures is not an esthetic element, I just hate it.

I second that for most, if not almost all cases. :)

However, I recently remembered the sound of scratches on old LPs. It conveys the warm notion of nostalgia. Dust on film is the same. Dust disturbs the visual experience when interfering with the subject. Dust will better work aesthetically when becoming a subtle foreground figure, without becoming a disturbingly bold statement, either. It is not easy to keep it in some poetic sphere of being noticeable, but not too much. Something like: make it clear, avoid the pile and provide a framework for the experience of beauty and meaning.

My apologies if I've posted this before. The quality of this lens, which has thorium in the glass that has discoloured the lens elements to tawny, is ridiculous (clicking on the picture will enable you to view it slightly better, but the original scan is considerably better):

Very nice. M3 is always good, and it sings with a 50! So the request is now: results please 😀

Just perfect, motive, colours, depth of field. Enjoy the summer!

No apologies needed. Radioactively charged pictures like this are always welcome. The thorium decays with time, the strengths of this picture will grow.

Does someone here know if there is a noticeable difference between a pre ASPH Summilux 50 and an ASPH summilux 50 if used not digital but with film?

They do have a different character to some extend. Above, say 5,6 similar, below the A stays more evenly sharp, the PA is sharp in the centre less so in the field. The PA shows more distortion, very notacibly so if you photograph brickwalls. Both have a nice creamy bokeh, the PA Mandler style, the A like the 0.95 Nocti. My PA has focusshift wide open (5cm) but I understand that others don’t have that issue. I don’t notice any difference in glare performance contre jour. the A is a bit longer, and with some the focus can be a touch more “sticky”. The A in the old style metal does not have that issue.

In summary: Both are superb excellent phantastic dream lenses, that work very well with film.

And with a pinch of salt:

If you wear a 50s style trenchcoat and use TriX, use the PA.

If you Wear jeans and use Tmax the A is your lens of choice.

Or the other way round 😀
