Ektachrome E100

Choose from the following:

A) A photo-interpretation of a Daniel Libeskind Pavilion inspired by The Edge of Order.

B) Doug Trumbull's stargate corridor photo-rendering concept for Kubrick's 2001.

C) A De Stijl schematic for a Red-Blue box inspired by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld.

D) A galactic ion accelerator concept commissioned by Marvel Comics.

[ *: Yet Another New Year’s Riddle... ]

Since @Ernest has kindly submitted his stimulating, yet rather complex riddle (befitting his abstract work), I will add a more straightforeward, albeit not easy one!

Which of the two images below is from a digital camera, which was shot on film?

(A)

The winner is eligible to a free 30 second trial of Claybrick(TM) Imagestudio(TM) software, accompanied by generous 20 KB of cloud storage, thereby however forfeiting all intellectual property rights for himself and any next of kin for seven consecutive generations.

Mathias - the first is film.  The halos around the candles are a dead giveaway.  I would even venture to guess Ilford Delta 3200, in case extra credit is given  🙂

This was, of course, a rather coarse and tongue-in-cheek take on the trend towards ever increasing oversaturation and abuse of clarity that we had to become accustomed to in recent years.

The b/w was actually taken with a humble IIIf + Elmar 50 mm on FP4 shot at nominal ISO 125. Thus you were right with the Ilford look, however you underestimated my aptitude for handheld breath holding exercises ;)

Expanding on the question at hand, although aware of entering murky waters with this skewed analogy, I would like to venture three categories:

(a) Pornography

(b) Actually making love

(c) Amorous poetry.

Many photographs, by no means all, that we see on flickr, Instagram etc. today imho amount to (a), aimed for sheer blunt impact, brief attention spans and current perceptual habits.

Many film images, all the more so on b&w, could be compared to (c).

Although neither (a) nor (c) substitute for real life, it would take me about 3 msec to decide, which of these I prefer.

Of course, in a hybrid workflow, you can garishly overprocess your negatives like with any digital camera image. However, most film shooters seem not to. I am not anti-digital, I am merely anti-overdoing (maybe like an ex-smoker, been there, done that).

After this longish rant, I stand aside and make room for the exposition of more pictures ;)

Mathias ,  the picture 2 color is saturated and hypersharp *  it's digital , the characteristics of digit !

Happy New Year to you and all members in this thread

Henry, I went full gas on purpose, hitting the floorboard with the accelerator (maxing the respective sliders) to make my point 😎 which was, of course, rather unfair, even towards my own humble digital skills😂

Health and good light to all!

Mathias

Leica M2 - Summicron 2/35 - FP4 in Perceptol

The last one for this very interesting and joyful analogue year. I never developed more rolls of film than this year, and I hope next year it will be a lot more :)

Happy New Year to all of you and I'm looking forward to many, many film shots here.

Regards Joerg

Who said photographers can't be standup comedians? I am certain Adam can wrestle a comedy club venue for Laughin' LUF Crew in NYC.

Here's another "view" of What Is It.
