colmac Posted May 30, 2013 Share #921 Â Posted May 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Talking of Audi, the A2 and the M5 have so much in common; both were incredibly well and expensively engineered, many say ahead of their time. But the market thought otherwise.
Advertisement Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi colmac, Take a look here Mini M? [MERGED] AKA X-Vario. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
NJH Posted May 30, 2013 Share #922 Â Posted May 30, 2013 Perception of the brand had a lot to do with that. I was sat on a train years ago opposite a lady who wanted a small car for driving around London, she was thinking of getting an A class (the old old one that was shameful for MB to stick their badge on). I proposed the little Audi as I knew it was a cutting edge car, she was aghast at the idea and stated she just couldn't buy a horrid little Audi. Fast forward a few years and the little Audi is seen as an uber cool modern classic.
dwbell Posted May 30, 2013 Share #923 Â Posted May 30, 2013 leica just posted this on their FB. lol! Â This is what I was talking about. They're not in control of their own message. Having to reactively add that sort of thing is amateur hour in my opinion. Next worse is a press release saying what it ISN'T. Â I know some think any PR is good PR, but that, along with teasers, died in the late 80's.
Paul J Posted May 30, 2013 Share #924 Â Posted May 30, 2013 The only thing left to say is the picture of the camera inside the box looks different form the one in the leak and we will find out on the 11th what that means - if it is a different camera or just marketing make-believe. earleygallery Posted May 30, 2013 Share #926  Posted May 30, 2013 This is what I was talking about. They're not in control of their own message. Having to reactively add that sort of thing is amateur hour in my opinion. Next worse is a press release saying what it ISN'T. I know some think any PR is good PR, but that, along with teasers, died in the late 80's.  Quite opposite I'd say, it's all part of the strategy. They know the net would be rife with rumours and now they add a further teaser. Now we wonder if the leaked images are fake or not. Most likely the image was leaked by Leica on purpose too. Guest rivercityrocker Posted May 30, 2013 Share #927 Â Posted May 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) All I know is there sure are a lot of Leica haters over on DPReview.
TW528 Posted May 30, 2013 Share #928 Â Posted May 30, 2013 I swear Leica did this exact same thing (box opening teaser) a few years back for another product. Does anyone remember?
lct Posted May 30, 2013 Share #929 Â Posted May 30, 2013 ...Most likely the image was leaked by Leica on purpose too. Yes this way we can check that the leak was true.
TW528 Posted May 30, 2013 Share #930 Â Posted May 30, 2013 Why would Leica leak something only to ruin their own teaser? Answer: they wouldn't.
luigi bertolotti Posted May 30, 2013 Share #931  Posted May 30, 2013 I am sure some other person was meant ... ....since there are still no rumors that the new camera will have a chrome lens...  Gotta the reason of my deep disillusion... (but my dealer says that the arrival of a chrome M is no more an uncertain event... )
earleygallery Posted May 30, 2013 Share #932 Â Posted May 30, 2013 Well, if the leaked image is really a genuine product, it can only have come from Leica. Â Generates lots of interest and lots of denials. Leica are totally in control of the 'message' because only they know the truth, and when we find out on the 11th whatever rumours have circulated will quickly be forgotten. Paolo.Battista Posted May 30, 2013 Share #934 Â Posted May 30, 2013 You all realize the mean household income in China is around $10,000.00 per year so I don't think a drove of luxury camera equipment is in their future, any more than in the past, no matter how many billion people there are. Â Really, I think that you need to get more aware of Chinese actual market

But the market thought otherwise. I do not like Audi's. These Volkwagens in (minor) disguise usually appeal to ignorant drivers. Personally I never give way to an Audi. Tough, they unfortunately did choose the wrong make :-)) Â (Flames are welcome :-)))))
