mirekti Posted April 1, 2013 Share #22 Posted April 1, 2013 .... and a bit of heat helps as well ..... just enough to soften the adhesive ... in fact its probably the heat generated from constant finger pressure and rotation that does it.... What type of glue do you use afterwards?
thompsonkirk Posted April 2, 2013 Share #23 Posted April 2, 2013 Is it true that the M240 red dot is bigger than the old ones, so you can't substitute an M6 black dot? I wish someone would get on the ball/dot and make some blank black ones. Re: removal, my dealer showed me how to use a hair dryer to warm the old dot before wiggling it. Warm, not heat. Kirk PS to mirekti: If you handle it carefully, it might have enough adhesive left to re-attach without glue. If an M6 dot will fit, then they come with fresh adhesive backing. DAG sometimes has them in stock. PPS re: the blackout tradition: Leicas started out black with plain metal knobs and lenses. Then chrome models, when used for 'candid' photography, acquired pelts of electrical tape. War correspondents like David Douglas Duncan wanted black bodies so they wouldn't reflect sunlight and get them shot. Nobody who became a Leica addict before the M4-2 can stand red dots. Black tape is de rigeur if you can't find/make a black dot. With black tape, lesser photographers without black dots will think you're a famous street shooter. And black is guaranteed to keep you from getting mugged.
tobey bilek Posted April 2, 2013 Share #24 Posted April 2, 2013 Is there some reason why you can not paint it on camera ? A bit of frisket mask around the dot and over the script, then tape the rest of the camera. Frisket rolls off with finger pressure. Or put some Vaselene on the body with cheap brush. Paint will not stick.

StephenPatterson Posted April 3, 2013 Share #26 Posted April 3, 2013 Is there some reason why you can not paint it on camera ? A bit of frisket mask around the dot and over the script, then tape the rest of the camera. Frisket rolls off with finger pressure. Or put some Vaselene on the body with cheap brush. Paint will not stick. Sure this would work but considering that you can remove the dot in about one minute why go to all this masking effort (and you still have to remove the paint from the script)? Best to keep the camera well out of harm's way.

thighslapper Posted June 28, 2013 Share #32 Posted June 28, 2013 Nice, where did you find this chrome version of the EVF? It's an olympus re-sprayed with automotive paint that matches the Silver Chrome camera ..... and an old Red Leica dot from my black M9 that I replaced with a black dot. Luckily the Leica dots are alloy and can be bent to the profile of the EVF and then stuck on. An entertaining way to waste a few hours on a rainy sunday..... Guest borge Posted June 28, 2013 Share #33 Posted June 28, 2013 Nice job! I do this with everything I purchase! Car manufacturers has luckily stopped screwing their engine, model, etc. numbers on the rear of the cars. Glue is easily removable! BRANDINGS SUCK! I would have kept the "Leica" script black as well. You gain twice 20 minutes of paint job that you can spend shooting pictures.

IWC Doppel Posted July 7, 2013 Share #37 Posted July 7, 2013 Ooh, now that's nasty, unless the top plate is actual carbon. Being an automotive engineer by training I cringe when Carbon is used where it shouldn't be
mirekti Posted October 3, 2013 Share #38 Posted October 3, 2013 Is there a way to replace the red dot on the lens too? I thought of changing the color of the Leica logo to black, but this cannot be compleated without swapping the red dot on my lenses to a white one for example. Are theses dots only glued to the lens? Would it be hard to remove it?
