Advertisement Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Hi geesbert, Take a look here black is back. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thompsonkirk Posted March 31, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 31, 2013 Please explain: Did it come this way, or did you replace the red dot? I thought we couldn't replace them with older black dots, because M240 dot is larger? Anyway it looks beautiful – and much less conspicuous. geesbert Posted March 31, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted March 31, 2013 Isn't she beautiful? howtododat: remove the dot, stick it onto some wax paper, spray paint it twice with lustre black paint, let it dry, use a nail file to get the silver leica font back, stick it back onto the camera. 20 minutes work, drying time overnight. the M paint can easily be removed with a toothpick. 20 seconds work. how much did I drop my resale value? couldn't care less!

KanzaKruzer Posted March 31, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 31, 2013 Does it void the warranty?
mmradman Posted March 31, 2013 Share #6 Posted March 31, 2013 Does it void the warranty? Warranty?? More like disowned & Leica's own 007 (licence to kill) being dispatched. It is company prerogative to showcase special editions & charge premium not some schmuck (no offence to OP) with a black paint spray can & toothpick. I love it, massive improvement on the original.

Peter H Posted April 1, 2013 Share #11 Posted April 1, 2013 It works well enough on an M9, but here the lack of the VF illuminator window makes it look slabby and heavy now the dot doesn't break it up. Sorry, me no leica.
wda Posted April 1, 2013 Share #12 Posted April 1, 2013 Ummm! I sometimes wonder if these cosmetically modified cameras were ever intended to be used for real photography?
MarkP Posted April 1, 2013 Share #13 Posted April 1, 2013 Ummm! I sometimes wonder if these cosmetically modified cameras were ever intended to be used for real photography? Well, on my M9 I replaced the red dot with a black one and picked out the white M9 lettering. I prefer it's more subtle look. I'd like a black dot on my silver M when it arrives (if it ever does) and I USE MY CAMERA FOR REAL PHOTOGRAPHY! So there

mirekti Posted April 1, 2013 Share #16 Posted April 1, 2013 What was the method of removing the red dot? What tool did you use? I wouldn't like to bend it or otherwise damage the camera.
MarkP Posted April 1, 2013 Share #17 Posted April 1, 2013 What was the method of removing the red dot? What tool did you use?I wouldn't like to bend it or otherwise damage the camera. The recommended method is to press firmly on the dot (which is held in place with a mild clear gummy adhesive) with your finger and rotate the dot clockwise/anticlockwise back & forth until it loosens. Then it's just lifted off and refitted later or replaced.

satureyes Posted April 1, 2013 Share #19 Posted April 1, 2013 Why?
Popular Post MarkP Posted April 1, 2013 Popular Post Share #20 Posted April 1, 2013 Why? BECAUSE I DON"T LIKE THE RED DOT ON A BLACK CAMERA AND IF I SPEND $7000 ON IT I CAN HAVE IT WITH A BLACK DOT IF I WANT! AND IT TAKES BETTER B&W PHOTOGRAPHS WITH A B&W DOT! OK?
